Seton (and Seton Coastside) are on the edge. I didn’t know how close until the meeting today. I didn’t see anyone else from Coastside there, so I think the alarm must be sounded. David Canepa is definitely a hero here. He has worked non stop to try to improve the situation. Dr. Robert Perez, Chief of the Medical Staff, is the other hero. (He is the brother of Tom Perez, head of the Democratic party.)

ARTICLE from Gregg Dieguez.
Readers in Montara are about to see major increases in all of their water, sewer, and garbage rates. Half Moon Bay has already done major increases. More are likely.
San Mateo has a $1 billion Clean Water Program to upgrade a wastewater treatment plant for less than 25% of the county’s population, and more for other asset replenishment projects.
SAM had a major sewer spill, that could have cost over $7 million in fines, because under-maintained pipes failed.
The American Water Works Association reports that nationally rates will be TRIPLING – and that it will be WORSE on the West Coast. What’s going on?

$15 per hour wage to take effect January 1, 2021
Half Moon Bay, CA – At its meeting of February 4, 2020, the City Council of Half Moon Bay adopted an ordinance to increase the minimum wage within the city to $15 per hour, effective January 1, 2021. The ordinance also applies annual cost of living increases to the local minimum wage based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), commencing on January 1, 2022. The current statewide minimum wage is $13 per hour for businesses with 26 or more employees, and $12 per hour for businesses with 25 or less employees. State law requires that those wages increase one dollar per year until they reach $15.

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) is an international fraternity that traces its roots back to 17th century England, where small groups of working-class people banded together, using some of their wages to create a common fund that they could turn to in times of sickness, loss of a job, or death. These altruistic groups became known as “odd fellows” since it was then considered odd or peculiar to find people organized for the purpose of giving aid to those in need and pursuing projects for the benefit of all mankind.
The Odd Fellows exercise the founding principles of “friendship, love and truth” and “aiding the community … at large in every way possible.”

NOW VIDEO and PODCAST. It’s hard to be Velma, the littlest Gratch, entering the first grade. That’s because everyone has marvelous memories of her two older sisters, who were practically perfect first graders. Poor Velma—people can barely remember her name. But all that changes on a class trip to the magnificent Butterfly Conservatory—a place neither of her sisters has ever been. When a monarch roosts on Velma’s finger and won’t budge for days . . . well, no one will forget Velma ever again. Acclaimed and bestselling illustrator Kevin Hawkes and author Alan Madison celebrate everything butterfly—from migration to metamorphosis. Watch as Velma Gratch metamorphosizes from a timid first grader into a confident young scientist!
