Drop off Expired / Unused Prescription Drugs with HMB Sheriff’s Office/Farmers Market

Drop off your Expired or Unused Prescription Drugs with the Sheriff’s Office
Wondering what to do with the expire
d or unused prescription medications still sitting in your medicine cabinet? It’s important to dispose of them to help keep them from getting into the hands of others who may abuse them. And, you’ll be less likely to use ineffective (or even toxic) medications.

Proper disposal is also important, and fortunately there is a great opportunity coming up this Saturday.
The Sheriff’s Office will be collecting any type of medication, expired or non-expired, along with used or unused sharps/needles at the Half Moon Bay Farmers Market.

Traffic Alert: Geotechnical Borings to Begin Along Hwy 1 Starting Monday

Geotechnical Borings to Begin Along Highway 1 Starting Monday, November 18
On Monday, November 18 the City will begin geotechnical investigation on both sides of Highway 1 between N. Main Street and Spindrift Way. This geotechnical work along Highway 1 will provide information on the soil strength and characteristics
and will identify any groundwater which

may be encountered during the boring.

The community may notice drilling equipment and personnel during normal business hours along the highway. Advance warnings and signage will be in place to notify motorists.
This information will help complete the design of the Highway 1 North Safety and Operational Improvements project, which includes a new signalized intersection at Highway 1 and Terrace Avenue, new asphalt pavement, and the Class I multiuse path on the east side of Highway 1. For more information you can visit the project page

HMB City Council Meeting on Kelly Street Safety

At the upcoming November 19, 2019 City Council meeting, Council members will consider approving certain traffic safety improvements on Kelly Avenue between Main Street and Church Street.

The purpose of the proposed project is to improve the roadway space to more safely accommodate both bicyclists and vehicles, including buses which utilize that street.

If approved, this project would move the center line of the street five feet to the south of its current location (
download PDF).

Parking would be reconfigured to change the existing 12 angled parking spaces on the south side of Kelly between Church and Purissima to eight parallel parking spaces. This reconfiguration of parking spaces would provide the additional space needed both directions of traffic.

SURVEY: What Do You Think of Short-Term Rentals in HMB?

Your Input Requested! Please Fill Out the Survey on Potential Regulations for Short-Term Rentals

The City of Half Moon Bay is seeking the community’s input for regulating the use of properties here as Short-Term Rentals (typically for vacation use), known as STRs. While STRs are not presently regulated in the City’s zoning ordinance, many are currently operating here.
Many community members have expressed an interest in this topic, with a wide range of opinions about STRs and how they may be regulated. Residents have communicated to the City that they have concerns about various aspects of neighborhood compatibility of STRs, such as safety, noise, trash, and parking. Accordingly, the City has been working to develop an ordinance and specific regulations to directly address the use of properties as STRs.

Facility sharing was the most talked about and now the two government bodies are working towards a facility use agreement.

Transportation will be on the next agenda: bussing, private school commutes, bike riding, etc.

Primary Record of History of the Ohlone-Portola SF Bay Discovery Trail

ARTICLE/ PRIMARY RECORD.   The uniqueness of the Heritage Trail is that it is based on two cultures, the Ohlone and the Spanish, that were unknown to each other until 1769. This is the story of two peoples—the indigenous population and their culture, and the coming of the Spanish and European colonization. This trail contains historic and archæologic resources which span a wide spectrum of human history on the Peninsula. Since the Portolá expedition these stories intertwined.
