Romeo Pier Coming Down
Photo-essay. Lead-based paint abatement using a process that encapsulates the old lead-based paint to prevent the toxic paint from falling into the water. It’ll be completely down in 30 days.

Built in 1940, the wharf served as a place for Coastside fishermen to unload sardines and salmon for decades, long before the harbor breakwater was built. Today that age is really starting to show, and harbor officials say it could be only a matter of time before the pier falls apart on its own.

Joe Romeo branded cans of his seafood with a cartoon fish wearing glasses and named the image Charlie, after his son. The fishing side of the business was later sold to Star-Kist Tuna (see videos below), which adopted Charlie the Tuna as the company mascot.

Johnston House Video

Really Excellent Video. Learn about the history of the James Johnston House.  The house sits on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean, east of Route One, just south of the city of Half Moon Bay. Isolated, its silhouette is a remarkable sight against the rolling hillsides golden brown until the winter rains turns them green. The classic New England saltbox (two stories in front, one in back) was built by ’49er pioneer James Johnston between 1853-1855, for his Californiano bride, Petra Maria de Jara. ~ Thanks HMB Media

Commercial Cannabis Tax Measure Presentation

HMB City Council considers Fiscal Analysis and Consideration of Ballot Measures for Potential Commercial Cannabis Businesses.
The community is invited to attend the June 19 City Council meeting and join the ongoing discussion of potential commercial cannabis business activity in Half Moon Bay. The meeting begins at 7 pm, at Ted Adcock Community Center, 535 Kelly Avenue.
At this meeting, the City Council will receive a consultant’s report on the potential revenues and other fiscal issues related to taxation options for possible commercial cannabis businesses in Half Moon Bay. Potential revenues under a number of different scenarios/assumptions will be presented.l

Bedtime Stories ~ When Dinosaurs Came with Everything

Podcast. Read and produced by Michelle Dragony reading from the children’s book “When Dinosaurs Came With Everything”, written by Elise Broach and illustrated by David Small.

Prepare your child for a relaxing audio podcast experience. Whether in the car, the store, or before bed, let your child immerse their ear in their imagination. School is largely auditory. Prepare your kid to listen and visualize a story without TV or video. Just listen!

Then share the book to the audio. Listen and read. Allow your child to teach themselves to read. Using visual/audio anchor words your child will figure out the visual/sound connections by themselves. Eventually, they will be able to read the book to you all by themselves!
