Eye of the COVID Hurricane

OWN VOICE. ~ InPerspective by Gregg Dieguez and Bruce Laird

San Mateo Farm Bureau Sues California Coastal Commission to Protect Coastside Farmland From Subdivision

PRESS RELEASE. From the San Mateo County Farm Bureau 3/11/2021.    Farm Bureau Files Lawsuit against Coastal Commission to Protect Coastside Lands from Subdivision.

The San Mateo County Farm Bureau has filed a lawsuit against the California Coastal Commission regarding a Local Coastal Plan (LCP) Amendment to modify San Mateo County’s approval requirements for public agency land divisions for public recreation purposes in the Coastal Zone.  The Commission characterized the LCP amendments as “minor”, saying they would not result in any cognizable environmental effects.  The Farm Bureau’s lawsuit claims the amendments violate protections for agriculture contained in the California Coastal Act of 1976 and would result in potentially significant environmental impacts on agriculture and other resources for which mitigation was required under the California Environmental Quality Act.

California Coastal Commission Approves 71-Unit MidPen Low Income Housing at Cypress Point in Moss Beach

STAFF REPORT. From the California Coastal Commission hearing 3/12/2021.

However, a reduction in the density of the proposed site as compared to the existing LCP designations would reduce the potential traffic generated from any subsequent development. In other words, the existing LCP would allow for a larger project that could result in more traffic impacts than one that would be consistent with the proposed amended LCP.

MAPS.   Susannah Cantrell  (also on Granada Community Services District Parks and Recs Committee)

CalTrans Recirculates Plans for Variable Message Signs (VMS) Allowing for Emergency Messaging

Caltrans prepared a CEQA IS with an ND document and circulated it for public review on August 14, 2020. A virtual public meeting was held on September 10, 2020, and the public review period was scheduled to end on September 13 but was extended to October 30, 2020.

Caltrans has decided to recirculate a Draft Initial Study with Proposed Negative Declaration in response to comments and consultation with location communities.

The proposed signs would be activated during emergencies or incidents only and would be off most of the time. The signs would only be programed to be lighted when needed to convey emergency and incident-related information to motorists. In addition, some of the VMS locations were reviewed and relocated in response to public review and input.
