San Mateo County Supervisors Vote 5-0 to Approve Hotel Purchase of Coastside Inn From Keet Nerhan

PRESS RELEASE 12/9/2020.

At its meeting on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, the Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 to approve the purchase of a coastside hotel, for the purposes of providing temporary shelter that supports homeless residents while they seek long-term housing.

The Board allocated up to $8,035,000 in federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act funds to purchase the Coastside Inn, 230 S. Cabrillo Highway (Highway 1) in Half Moon Bay. The County’s 2019 one-day count of unsheltered individuals found 230 homeless people on the coast from Pacifica south, which is an area that lacks a permanent homeless shelter.

Update County Proposal to acquire Coastside Inn After Tuesday’s 12/1/2020 City of Half Moon Bay Council Meeting


As many of you know, San Mateo County has proposed to purchase the Coastside Inn, located at 230 Cabrillo Highway S, in Half Moon Bay, to provide shelter and support to homeless individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. The County would use Cares Act Funding from the Federal Government to finance the purchase, and their ability to use these funds expires on December 30, 2020.

Harbor Village – new 50 space RV park. The SMC Planning Department is planning to move forward with a “Negative Declaration” on the new Harbor Village RV Park unless objections are raised. The County of San Mateo has determined that the environmental impact of the project is insignificant.

Moss Beach’s Vallemar Bluff Coastal Prairie Habitat Restoration Update 2020

PRESS RELEASE. Sunday, Dec. 6th, 2020 from the Midcoast Community Council.

Vallemar Bluff Habitat Restoration Update 2020

The grassland on Vallemar Bluff just north of Julianna in Moss Beach is rare Coastal Prairie habitat that will be restored and protected by a Conservation Easement as part of the approval of four new homes on Vallemar St. in 2019.

During 2020, the restoration team has been conducting invasive plant management and seed collection and propagation.  Major restoration tasks at the site during the first two weeks in December will require some heavy equipment (supervised by biologists)

Sheriff White Paper Presented at Public Safety Committee Which Was Formed After Harmon Shooting

Staff is meeting with the Public Safety Subcommittee to present their white paper draft. The paper discusses a series of topics identified through facilitated discussions regarding law enforcement in Half Moon Bay. Staff continues to perform research on numerous topics to include in the white paper. This research will be finalized, and the finished paper will be presented in early 2021.

The City of Half Moon Bay and County of San Mateo – Government have partnered to offer more COVID-19 testing on the Coastside.

Using Curative self-administered testing kits, you simply swab your own mouth and you’re done.

Testing will offer safe, outdoor walk-up access.

Tests are free, no insurance necessary, but if you have it, bring your information.
