Fear and Loathing on the MidCoast

OWN VOICE. ~ InPerspective by Gregg Dieguez —

Last night’s MCC meeting included a discussion of the lawsuit Half Moon Bay (HMB) filed against its Midcoast “partners” in the joint powers authority Sewer Authority Midcoast (SAM). While mostly tactful, there was clearly an emotional disagreement over the facts, and even a little Deceit Theater. It matters to Midcoast residents because thousands of dollars of extra charges are headed your way, if HMB wins this lawsuit.

Housing: How Much Is Too Much?

OWN VOICE. ~ InPerspective by Gregg Dieguez —

Last night our State Senator Josh Becker Zoomed with over 100 residents concerned about two new State Housing Bills which they feel threaten their neighborhoods.  One thread of questions was: “We made the choice to move to and invest in this community.  How come they get to take it away from us and make decisions that should be ours?”

Pacifica Architect Christine Boles questions Pacifica’s understanding of Hillside Preservation Requirements

The hills are alive with the sound of bulldozers…

When my family decided to move to Pacifica back in 2008 one of the big draws for us was the amount of open space. I thought to myself, what a forward-thinking planning department and city council we have that has protected our beautiful green hills since the 50’s. It looks like a picture postcard for what cities should do to protect the environment and fight climate change.

COVID-19: Snake Oils and (Maybe) Cures

OWN VOICE. ~ InPerspective by Bruce Laird, with a little Gregg Dieguez —

Clearly people have been desperate for cures and hope for the past year plus. There are a bunch of doctors and media outlets providing misinformation on treatments and cures. Whether their motivations are greed, self-aggrandizement, or jumping a news cycle for publicity, the results of misinformation can be both expensive and deadly. This article describes what helps, what hurts,  what used to work – but virus variants have escaped, and what may be coming. The details have been moved to the bottom of the article, with hyperlinks to them provided in the intro. Science isn’t done with COVID-19, but here’s where we stand at present.  Plus, there’s a cute hamster in the story!…Careful, it could include Bleach!
