Parklet Pilot Project at Cafe Society on Main Street HMB

PHOTO / AGENDA. Per the City of Half Moon Bay Architectural Advisory Committee (AAA) 11/21/19

The Architectural Advisory Committee (AAC) is not a decision-making committee. Their primary function is to provide design feedback to the Director, Planning Commission and City Council. In the case of the parklet, the AAC provided design and construction feedback to assist the Director in her decision. After reviewing the project, the Director referred the project to the Planning Commission.

The minutes from the meeting, as well as additional information on the AAC can be downloaded from the following City webpage: The minutes are included in the agenda pack for Friday’s AAC meeting. Let me know if I can answer any other questions.  ~ City HMB Planner, Scott Phillips.

Introducing the $40 Million CIP Budget for Sewer Authority Mid-Coastside

VIDEO. How to plan for the next 20 years. Start with a 5 year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), with a 10 year outlook, reviewed on a rolling basis.

There is a lot of maintenance due to corrosion. There are 30-20 year old aerators, controllers, digester, etc.. Electrical will be expensive.  And then there is Sea Level Rise to think about.

$8 million dollars a year needs to be spent, over 5 years ~ $40 million.

AB 1672 Will Redefine the Marketing of “Flushable” Wipes

VIDEO. Heidi Sanborne of the National Stewardship Action Council (NSAC) asks the Sewer Authority Mid-Coastside (SAM) Board to fund ($1,000) NSAC advocacy of “circular economy” in Sacramento.

In particular, sewer authorities statewide are battling “flushable” wipes.  Specifically, AB 1672 (2020 legislation) addresses Wet Wipe Labelling. Flushable wipes do NOT disintegrate like toilet paper does. Kimberly-Clark does not want this bill to pass. California represents 13% of the wipes industry; if this bill passes, it will set an example for the nation. KC does not want wipes reclassified as single use plastic.

Please do NOT flush wipes. They are not made only of paper, but often micro plastics as well.

It is a huge labor cost to SAM in the thousands of labor hours and a strain on the equipment.
