The Mystery of SAM’s BOD Spikes ~ Fertilizers? Frozen Fisheries? Breweries? Distilleries? Wineries?

VIDEO. From Sewer Authority Mid-coastside Board meeting Monday, 12/14/2020.

General Manager Kishen Prathivadi and Dan Childs from Wastewater Management Specialists present.

SAM has violations in October and November, and probably December due to BOD imbalance.

The question is complicated, but the board was asking about Fertilizers? Frozen fisheries? Breweries? Distilleries? Wineries?

It is important that the BOD be stable so we don’t pollute the ocean and get fined.

So, let’s put our heads together and see what we can come up with.

Pacificans Sue the City of Pacifica Over Violation of CEQA and California’s Planning and Land Use Laws

VIDEO.  City of Pacifica Council approved the Vista Mar on November 23rd, 2020. The decision was based on a typewritten 1980 document. The plan is for 8 luxury condos on a 1.2 acre west-facing hill. The project requires the cutting down of 57 trees. Pacifica has not updated their general plan since 1980. Pacifica’s land use plan is one of the oldest in the state of California.

Note that a General Plan for a City is like the Constitution for how to run the City. It should be updated every 10 years. This plan is 40 years out of date. In particular, does not adequately plan for stormwater runoff and drainage, therefore ignoring environmental impacts (such as alignment with CEQA ~ California Environmental Quality Act) and public safety.

For instance, during the 1982 El Nino, three children died due to a landslide in a year when there were 475 total mudslides in Pacifica. (see below).

A COVID Christmas Tale

OWN VOICE. ~ InPerspective by Gregg Dieguez —

On Dec. 23rd I started feeling dizzy. What happened next is more concerning. Here are some tips on getting tested, and a warning.  If you can contribute advice via comment, please do so.

My balance, which I use in sailing and other sports, is pretty good, so when I found myself stumbling and holding onto dressers and other furniture to make it across the bedroom to the bathroom it was: a) kind of a fun challenge, and b) most unusual. I found I only had a slight fever of 99, and aside from a little nausea and ringing in my ears, no other symptoms. Nonetheless, I quarantined myself away from the family for 24 hours until I found I could still taste a chocolate biscotti and my temperature bounced around from 97 to 99, but never higher. Unlikely I had COVID, but there were reports of dizziness – and no other symptoms – being present in people later diagnosed with COVID. So on Dec. 24th I started looking for testing….

Montara Water and Sanitary District Solid Waste Disposal Fee Increase 1.97% Starts Jan. 1st, 2021

VIDEO. From the Montara Water and Sanitary District board meeting held on December 17th, 2020 at 7:30pm.

The Board adopted a new prop 218 limit for solid waste removal fees at the December 3 hearing. For the new rates to be set at the newly established maximum prop 218 limit, the Master Fee Schedule needs to be amended.

The franchise agreement with Recology of the Coast requires the District to annually assess the solid waste disposal rates by January 1 in accordance with an agreed upon formula.

Pursuant to the franchise agreement, Recology of the Coast provided calculations required for the rate increase effective January 1, 2021.
