Humor and Entertainment Spawned by a Pandemic…
Who was that Masked Man? That wasn’t the Lone Ranger, Batman, or Spider Man – it was I. I was ahead of the curve in wearing first gloves, then a mask leftover from last year’s fires. And I sure did look silly. But this Pandemic has done a lot of things to make a lot of us look silly, so I thought I’d capture the Gallows Humor of the times. Below you’ll find memes of note, a video on how to maintain social distance, and an anthem for the age, plus a little comedy. Enjoy! ~ Gregg Dieguez, Montara

ESSAY. This good deed sprang from a visit on the coast between two old friends that met in 4th grade at Farallone View School in approximately 1962. One lives on the coast and is a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Half Moon Bay, the other lives in Kensington in Contra Costa county.

LETTER. Dear Half Moon Bay Community,
I thought this was a good time to check in with everyone, and let you know what’s been going on at the City. As you know, things are changing daily – and I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. I truly appreciate the effort each of you is putting in to support one another, stay home, and keep each other safe. >>> READ MORE

The Problem?
Confirmed cases and deaths from COVID-19 are steadily mounting, and testing for the disease is still limited in the United States. Healthcare professionals, researchers, scientists, public health experts, and government officials are still struggling to understand how many people are infected locally, statewide, and nationally.
To address this gap in knowledge, we’ve created COVID Near You.

ARTICLE LINKS. Attention Coastside Emergency Preppers! Got some time to learn something new and useful? #coronavirus
We need a minimum of 50-100 HAM radio operators, one in each neighborhood, 2 per 24 hours, to have effective communication with the EOC (Emergency Operations Center) in Half Moon Bay. Given people might be over the hill when a quake strikes, or hurt, we should have more than 25. The first couple of hours will be critical in determining scope of damage and triage of that damage for the first responders. That’s how important HAMs are on the Coastside.

Sewer authorities statewide are battling “flushable” wipes. Specifically, AB 1672 (2020 legislation) addresses Wet Wipe Labelling. Flushable wipes do NOT disintegrate like toilet paper does. Kimberly-Clark does not want this bill to pass. California represents 13% of the wipes industry; if this bill passes, it will set an example for the nation. KC does not want wipes reclassified as single use plastic.
Please do NOT flush wipes. They are not made only of paper, but often micro plastics as well.
It is a huge labor cost to SAM in the thousands of labor hours and a strain on the equipment.

Learn to sail! This is a safe and fun way for youth ages 8-16 to learn how to sail in either an Optimist (Opti) or Laser. Both boats are extremely popular recreational dinghies that also feature prominently in competition. Most certainly STEM! (science, technology, engineering, and math).
