CLOSED: HMB City and State Beaches, Parking Lots, and Portion of the Coastal Trail

PRESS RELEASE.
July 2, 2020 – As a temporary public health safety measure to reduce the density of visitors over the 4th of July holiday weekend, all beaches and their parking areas in Half Moon Bay will be closed to everyone, for the weekend. Additionally, a portion of the Coastal Trail between Seymour Bridge and Kelly Avenue will be closed for that same period.

This update of the City’s previous notice of beach closures now includes that beach access for   Half Moon Bay State Beach (Francis Campground/Kelly Avenue, Venice Boulevard, and Young Avenue will be closed as well. Yesterday, we announced the State Beach parking areas will be closed and that all access points to City beaches and their parking lots will also be closed. With today’s addition of access points to the State Beach, these are now full and complete closures of the beaches, and a section of the Coastal Trail, to all residents and visitors.

The closure begins at sunrise on Friday, July 3, and ends at 9:00 AM on Monday, July 6, 2020.

Pillar Point Harbor Closes ALL Beach Parking, Trails and Beaches

PRESS RELEASE and VIDEO.

  • Restrict Johnston pier to be open for tenants and customers only
  • Close Pillar Point Beach from boat ramp to Jetty (or Surfer’s) beach
  • Close West Point Trail (Mavericks) parking lots
  • Close K&N Jetty (Surfers) RV parking lot
  • Main parking lot at Pillar Point will be open
  • ALL BEACH and TRAIL ACCESS PARKING IS PROHIBITED
  • Parking on Hwy 1 will be allowed at this time.
  • Closure begins Thursday at midnight to Sunday at midnight.

San Mateo Sheriffs Get 136 Hours of Psychiatric Emergency Response Training (PERT)

VIDEO. CIT (Critical Incident Training) Training is explained by Head San Mateo County Sheriff, Carlos Bolanos.  Coastside Sheriff, Saul Lopez, also describes, in detail, the Sheriff training in regards to mental health.

CIT represents 136 hours of training regarding mental health trauma and de-escalation best practices, in response to such mental health events such as PTSD, suffered by many veterans.

CERT Volunteers Turn Out To Help With Project Baseline Covid Antigen (swab) Testing

COVID TESTING.  Coastside CERTs were called out to help with the Project Baseline Covid testing at Cunha Middle School.

We will be back next Tuesday, July 7th, 2020 at 9:00am.

  • Drive up
  • Put your car in park
  • Put your ID against your side window
  • We take your name, find your registration paperwork, double check birthdates on the doc (leave your license out) and then slip your paperwork under your wipers.
  • Off you go to get swabbed

Indigenous Peoples of the Bay Area Part 3: Economy, Spirituality, and Culture

This session will focus on interesting aspects of what we know about historic Indigenous culture, society, economy and spirituality. Participants will hear about examples of trade networks that existed, taking products made and collected by Bay Area communities far and wide. They’ll also learn about aspects of village life, spirituality, and sacred relationships with our local landscape. We’ll also share some resources for how you can learn and support contemporary Indigenous communities in our area.

Montara Sewer and Water District Offers Economic Hardship Assistance

NEWSLETTER.   Early this year, the MWSD Board requested a program to support customers experiencing financial hardship.
 

Board approved on June 4, 2020. The proposed Hardship Assistance Discount offers qualified customers an annual $100 sewer charge credit, and a bi-monthly water charge credit of $16.67 ($100 per year).

Now that California has added art galleries to the list of businesses that may re-open, we are delighted to announce that new exhibitions will open on Friday, July 10, 1–5pm.

During the opening and for all gallery visits thereafter, safety protocols for the health and well-being of visitors, volunteers, and staff will include physical distancing and limiting the number of people in the galleries; a short wait outside may therefore be required.

We are delighted to welcome back to our East Gallery the Loom & Shuttle Guild, presenting 20/20: Woven Visions, an exhibition of handcrafted and handwoven textile artworks.

2020 Summer Youth Sailing Camp at the Half Moon Bay Yacht Club

Learn to sail! This is a safe and fun way for youth ages 8-16 to learn how to sail in either an Optimist (Opti) or Laser. Both boats are extremely popular recreational dinghies that also feature prominently in competition. Most certainly STEM! (science, technology, engineering, and math).
