STRONG START TO 2017 Numbers almost doubled from last week with some very good lines of weaners coming through and prices up on last week in line with the excellent results at last Friday’s New Year store sale where weaner steers topped $1310. Yearling steers and heifers and well finished cows were also dearer despite the continuing heat.
STEERS Vealer steers sold to 401c/kg (370c/kg), yearlings to 379c/kg (362c/kg) and grown steers sold to 339c/kg (328c/kg). Highlights included:
Weaner steers sold by G&C on account Bretandra made 401c/kg and averaged 263kg/$1044;
Santa steers sold by Pitt Sons on account S & J Blake made 333c/kg and averaged 336kg/$1118;
Limo x Angus and Limo x Shorthorn weaner steers, May-June drop by Junction stud bulls sold by IML on account Matapouri sold to 381c/kg for the black steers and averaged 295kg/$1126;
Santa x steers sold by CP on account Thomas Chandler made 355c/kg and averaged 318kg/$1129;
Weaner steers (pictured below left) sold by G&C on account Landbound made 373c/kg and averaged 324kg/$1209;
Excellent run of Angus and Angus x steers (pictured below middle) sold by DCM on account S & D Bell sold to 373c/kg and averaged 307kg/$1146 for the lighter calves with the heavier calves making 361c/kg and averaging 349kg/$1262;
EU accredited Angus steers (pictured below right) straight off their mothers, sold by Pitt on account Chris Lafforgue made 353c/kg and averaged 377kg/$1338;
Charolais x yearling steers sold by Pitt Sons on account Kingstown Pastoral made 339c/kg and averaged 421kg/$1427;
Angus steers sold by CP on account HJ & NT Robards made 348c/kg and averaged 404kg/$1551;
Charolais x steers sold by PPA on account Salmon made 320c/kg and averaged 502kg/$1606;
Milk tooth Charolais steers sold by PPA on account Warner and Co made 339c/kg and averaged 580kg/$1966; and
Heavy bullocks sold by DCM made 288c/kg and averaged 688kg/$1983.
HEIFERS Vealer heifers sold to 353c/kg (365c/kg), yearlings sold to 343c/kg (332c/kg) and grown heifers sold to 320c/kg (306c/kg). Highlights included:
The heifer portion of the Matapouri weaners (pictured below left) sold by IML sold to 353c/kg and averaged 282kg/$999. The heavier calves made 349c/kg for both the red and the black and came back at 305kg/$1065 and 297kg/$1037;
Yearling heifers sold by G&C on account RT Pastoral made 328c/kg and averaged 378kg/$1243;
Charolais x heifers sold by Pitt on account Kingstown Pastoral made 320c/kg and averaged 394kg/$1253;
Yearling heifers sold by G&C on account CC & ME Dickson made 325c/kg and averaged 391kg/$1271;
Angus yearling heifers sold by LMK on account BR & AJ Smith made 300c/kg and averaged 435kg/$1305; and
Angus heifers sold by PPA on account Armitage and Maxwell made 320c/kg and averaged 459kg/$1468.
COWS Cowssold to 252c/kg (249c/kg) for Angus cows (pictured above middle) sold by LMK on account Maria River Cattle Co. They came back at 623kg/$1570. Other highlights included:
Hereford cows (pictured above right) sold by DCM on account Kea Farms made 242c/kg and averaged 785kg/$1899.
BULLS Bulls sold to 284c/kg (368c/kg).
