Tamworth Prime Cattle Market Highlight

Another strong sale today with numbers down but some good quality young cattle and increased numbers of grown steers and cows. There were good gains across many categories to feed and re-stock with a very strong cow market a highlight and the MLA National Livestock Reporting Service (NLRS) quoting cows as 3-6 c/kg dearer. Some very good pens of heavy steers made over $2000 including Charolais bullocks sold by ELD that cracked $2200.

STEERS
Vealer steers sold to 420c/kg (458c/kg), yearlings to 387c/kg (394c/kg) and grown steers sold to 338c/kg (337c/kg). Highlights included:
  • Angus steers (pictured below left) sold by B&S on account Blain made 387c/kg and averaged 281kg/$1087;
  • Limo x steers sold by B&S on account G&S Knee made 354c/kg and averaged 363kg/$1285;
  • Angus steers sold by G&C on account Landbound Pty Ltd, Timor Station made 391c/kg and averaged 330kg/$1290;
  • Milk tooth steers sold by G&C on account Peel High School sold to 349c/kg and averaged 366kg/$1277 with the heavier brothers making 338c/kg and averaging 389kg/$1314;
  • Shorthorn steers sold by ELD on account Rifa sold to 338c/kg with the lead pen coming back at 444kg/$1503;
  • Limo x yearling steers sold by IML on account Fletcher & Jackson made 346c/kg and averaged 464kg/$1605;
  • Angus yearling steers (pictured below middle) sold by CP on account McLachlan and Clancy made 338c/kg and averaged 483kg/$1636;
  • Yearling steers sold by LMK on account K & S Newsome made 310c/kg ;
  • 2 tooth crossbred steers (pictured below right) sold by Pitt on account NF & JD Goodwin made 310c/kg and averaged 623kg/$1930. 4 tooth steers from the same vendor made 309c/kg and averaged 648kg/$2002; 
  • Angus x bullocks (pictured bottom left) sold by IML on account W & P Watts made 310c/kg and averaged 671kg/$2080;
  • Charolais bullocks sold by ELD on account Mintarl made 312c/kg and averaged a massive 721kg/$2253.


HEIFERS
Vealer heifers sold to 365c/kg (430c/kg), yearlings sold to 338c/kg (348c/kg) and grown heifers sold to 301c/kg (300c/kg). Highlights included:
  •  Vealer heifers sold by CP on account GR & SM Lyon, Nowendoc made 364c/kg and averaged 288kg/$1050;
  • Angus/Angus x heifers (pictured below left) sold by DCM on account  DA & Ce Sevil made 331c/kg and averaged 352kg/$1165;  and
  • Heavy Hereford heifers sold by DCM on account Menz made 296c/kg and averaged 508kg/$1503.


COWS
Cows sold to 257c/kg (253c/kg). Highlights included cows (pictured above right) sold by IML on account MA & J Makeham for 256c/kg. They came back at 561kg/$1436.

BULLS
Bulls sold to 294c/kg (270c/kg) for bulls up to 450kg. 600+kg bulls sold to 261c/kg.
