  From NECOM CEO, Russell Bauer
We are entering an exciting new phase for the New England Conservatorium, with our first Piano Program now only a fortnight away. Dr Brieley Cutting is NECOM’s first Teacher of Piano, and you can meet her at our free informal welcome function on the evening of Thursday, 25 October from 6 – 7pm in Room G31. If you’d like to come along and meet Brieley (and hear her play!) be quick and notify Nicky through as places are limited.
Also new this Spring is the first of our School Holiday programs, commencing on Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd October with the “Science of Sound” workshops for children aged 8 – 16. This inaugural program has already been very well received, and students will enjoy exploring sound waves and vibrations by using different lengths of PVC pipe to construct unusual musical instruments.
I would like to congratulate all students who have been connected with HSC Performances, either as Year 12 Music students or as support musicians in ensembles. You have certainly earned the rest you can now enjoy during the October holidays. I am sure that students involved with New England Sings! will also appreciate the break, having rehearsed so diligently during Term Three. We can’t wait to have you return well-rested and enthusiastic to stage one of Australia’s most successful Choral festivals.

School Holiday Program: Science of Sound
On the 2nd and 3rd October young audio ‘scientists’ will enjoy NECOM’s first school holiday program, “The Science of Sound”. Using only lengths of PVC pipe with various types of fittings and joiners, students will construct musical instruments while experimenting with how to change pitch.
Measurements will be taken using a pitch-tuning application, and each two-hour workshop will conclude with a performance of the Conservatorium Calypso, an original piece specially composed for NECOM. We look forward to sharing some photos and audio. Book online

Musical Games
This term in Minisingers and Puddledocks besides our usual pieces being learnt, there have been some great games played. One of these was "Musical Twister". It is just like the real game except with musical rhythms. Read more
Missed Lessons Policy
NECOM would like to remind all families of our missed lesson policy where families must give at least 48 hours’ notice to NECOM admin or their teacher if the student cannot attend a lesson so that an alternative lesson time can be negotiated.   This includes notification of non-attendance due to school activities or other events.
Lessons missed with less than 48 hours’ notice, or without notice, will not be given a make-up lesson and are not eligible for a refund or credit.
Further information is available on our website or enrolment forms.

Don't forget to take advantage of our early bird discounts for term 4 fees. The discount will be applied to all accounts that are paid in full by 12 October. For more information, contact Nicky on 6788 2135.
