Summer 2016 Graduate Fellows Go to Washington

The Summer 2016 Graduate Program in Public Policy Fellows arrived in the nation's capital on May 21 and have already hit the ground running with class and activities including the famous Archer Center scavenger hunt. These 30 master’s, doctoral and medical students from across the academic and health institutions of The University of Texas System make up our largest cohort of summer Graduate Fellows to date. Join The Archer Center at a welcome reception for the Summer 2016 Graduate Fellows at Shaw’s Tavern on Wednesday, June 1, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.

Friends of The Archer Center Trust Deadline Approaching

The Friends of The Archer Center Trust helps educate the next generation of leaders from Texas by providing vital financial support to The Archer Center and its students. Trustees commit to contribute or raise a minimum of $500 annually and have direct input as to how their donations are used. Each year, the Trust is presented with several initiatives developed by Archer Center staff and the Archer Fellow Alumni Association, and funds are allocated accordingly. The Trust is an important building block toward sustainable fundraising in support of current and future Archer Fellows and is a unique way for supporters and alumni to have a significant impact on The Archer Center's future.

To join the Trust, make an online donation through The Archer Center’s online giving portal and select “Archer Center Trust” from the drop-down designation menu under “Donation Information”.

To be part of the 2016 Trust, please join or renew your membership by June 15, 2016. Please contact Archer Center director Katie Romano with questions. All donations are tax-deductible.

15 Year Celebrations Continue in Texas

The Archer Center hosted two events in May to honor 15 years of leaders shaped through our programs. UT Austin President Gregory Fenves opened his office to supporters and alumni of The Archer Center for a lunch and discussion about the importance of experiential learning (pictured below), and Congressman Ted Poe spoke at a reception in Houston hosted by Archer Center Advisory Board member Bob Borochoff about The Archer Center’s success in molding great leaders.

Celebration events will continue throughout 2016 in cities across Texas and in Washington with Texas House Speaker Joe Straus, U.S. House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady, Paul Begala and Chancellor William H. McRaven, among other special guests.

The continued success of The Archer Center since 2001 would not be possible without the generosity of our sponsors. We thank our 2016 sponsors for their continued support and dedication.  Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Contact Archer Center director Katie Romano with questions.

Farewell to Ana Benhalim

For the last five years, Archer Center Program Manager Ana Benhalim has helped shape the careers and lives of hundreds of Archer Fellows. From taking late-night phone calls to facilitating relationships between prospective employers, Ana has been an invaluable part of the Archer Fellows’ experience in Washington. Her work ethic and leadership has helped cultivate The Archer Center into what it is today- a touchstone for academic and professional excellence in experiential learning!

We wish Ana our best as she pursues other adventures in her career and begins a new chapter in life, part of which is welcoming "Baby Benhalim" later this year.
