The Archer Center Spotlight: July 2015

Summer 2015 Graduate Fellows Thrive in D.C.

The 2015 Graduate Fellows are wrapping up a busy summer in the nation's capital. In addition to working full-time in their internships, the cohort has enjoyed tours of the Pentagon, U.S. Capitol, and National Public Radio offices, and attended class at the Jefferson Memorial. "While my internship at the National Archives and academic class on federal policy making have invigorated me to return to my job as a high school U.S. government teacher, the fellowship of living in Washington, D.C., with 20 other graduate students from across Texas has really been the highlight of the program," said Graduate Fellow Emily Worland.

Alumnus Selected as Inaugural Franklin Project Ambassador

Fall 2008 Archer Fellow alumnus Gordon Rooney was selected as one of 45 inaugural Ambassadors for The Aspen Institute’s Franklin Project. Led by U.S. Army General Stanley McChrystal, The Franklin Project envisions a future in which a year of full-time national service is a cultural expectation and rite of passage for every young American. “From my own experience, I know firsthand the value of service,” Rooney said. “After graduating from UT Austin, I served with City Year, a nonprofit organization focused on education and the national dropout crisis. The work was important but the impact the experience had on my fellow corps members and me was just as important.”
