The Archer Center Spotlight: September 2015

Fall 2015 Archer Fellows brave the crowds to hear Pope Francis speak at the Capitol.

Fall 2015 Archer Fellows Witness History in D.C.

The fall semester is in full swing, and the Fall 2015 Archer Fellows are getting the hang of living, learning, and interning in Washington, D.C. In addition to starting their internships this month, the cohort enjoyed a Washington Nationals baseball game with Archer Center alumni, went to class at museums and monuments, and many of the Fellows were able to attend various events during Pope Francis's visit to the nation's capital. "One month ago, I came to D.C. alongside 41 strangers, anxious about the semester ahead. Four weeks later, it's safe to say my fellow students are no longer strangers - they are family," said UT Austin Archer Fellow Kevin King. Kevin is sharing his adventures this fall through The Archer Center's Instagram account. Keep up with Kevin and his classmates by following us on Instagram!

Archer Center Staff Visit UT System Campuses

Throughout the fall semester, Archer Center staff members are visiting UT System campuses to hold recruiting events and meet with prospective Archer Fellows. Students can attend an information session on their campus to learn more about the Archer Fellowship Program or Graduate Program in Public Policy. Contact archer@utsystem.edu with questions about the application process for our programs.

Archer Fellow Alumni Network at Chapter Events

Archer Fellow alumni representing classes from 2005 to 2015 attended social events hosted by the Archer Fellow Alumni Association (AFAA) chapters in Austin and Dallas this month. "It was great to see so many alumni from different classes come together and celebrate the shared experience of being an Archer Fellow," said Kali Lang, AFAA Austin Chapter Co-Chair and a Spring 2014 Archer Fellow. "We look forward to facilitating more events for Austin-area alumni this year."

Alumna Featured in Huffington Post "40 Under 40" List

Spring 2014 Archer Fellow Daniella Diaz was included in this month's "40 Under 40: Latinos in American Politics" list by The Huffington Post. Daniella graduated from UT Pan American last year and works in Washington, D.C., as a digital producer for CNN. The Archer Fellowship Program was more than a stepping stone for Daniella's career - it's also a bond she shares with her younger sister, Belen, who is currently participating in the program.
