The Archer Center Spotlight: November 2015

Fall 2015 Archer Fellows on the grounds of Valley Forge during a class trip to Philadelphia.

Archer Fellows Explore the East Coast

The Fall 2015 Archer Fellows are making the most of their final weeks in the nation's capital. This month, the cohort took a class trip to Philadelphia and Valley Forge with Dr. Joel Swerdlow as part of his Beyond Congress and the White House class. Some of the Fellows also traveled to Morgantown, West Virginia with the D.C. Texas Exes to watch the Texas Longhorns take on the WVU Mountaineers. They are also working hard in their internships, attending various conferences and networking events, and many of them are solidifying their post-graduation plans. Be sure to check out next month's Spotlight for news on their Archer Fellowship Program graduation celebrations!

Give Thanks to The Archer Center

As another exciting year comes to a close, The Archer Center is grateful for the many supporters who make our programs possible year after year. You can give back to The Archer Center by joining the 2016 Friends of The Archer Center Trust or participating in the Center’s Annual Giving Program.

Trustees not only provide vital financial support to the Center and our students, but also have direct input as to how their donations are used. Trustees commit to contribute or raise a minimum of $500 annually. Each year, the Trust is presented with several initiatives developed by Archer Center staff and the Archer Fellow Alumni Association (AFAA), and Trustees vote on which initiative(s) to fund. To join the 2016 Trust, simply make an online donation through The Archer Center’s online giving portal and select “Archer Center Trust” from the drop-down menu under “Designation”. Please contact Archer Center Director Katie Romano with any questions.

To participate in the Annual Giving Program, visit The Archer Center’s online giving portal, make a contribution and select “Archer Center Initiatives” from the “Designation” drop-down menu. Donations received by 11:50pm CT on December 31, 2015 are 2015 tax-deductible.

Archer Fellow Alumni Receive Scholarships

The 2015 Friends of The Archer Center Trust voted to fund an initiative that allows The Archer Center to support alumni as they continue to pursue their professional and academic goals. Out of more than 40 applicants, Whitney Allen (Fall 2012), Raheel Ata (Spring 2014), Marlee Burns (Spring 2015), Brett Cease (Summer 2015), Matthew Trevino (Fall 2014), and Mark Walser (Spring 2006) were selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship to assist with their graduate studies or participation in a public service program. Congratulations to these impressive alumni!

Join Austin Alumni for December Fundraising Event

The Austin Chapter of the Archer Fellowship Alumni Association (AFAA) is hosting a private charity ride at CYC Austin, an indoor cycling studio. The class is 45 minutes and combines cardio and strength training. The class is taught by a certified instructor, and all fitness levels are welcome.

Tickets are $15 each and space is limited. Please sign up here to reserve your spot. Friends and other guests are invited to purchase tickets as well.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the AFAA Scholarship Fund and provide scholarships for future Archer Fellows to live, learn, and intern in Washington, D.C.
