Spring 2016 Archer Fellows Blossom in D.C.

Spring is always an exciting time in Washington, D.C., and the Spring 2016 Archer Fellows are taking advantage of the city's most famous season. Several of the students attended the official arrival ceremony at the White House for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, while others experienced the annual White House Easter Egg Roll. Many Fellows enjoyed the cherry blossoms on the tidal basin and took weekend trips to New York City and Philadelphia. The cohort also participated in the long-standing Archer Fellow tradition of reading Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech at the Lincoln Memorial as part of their class with Dr. Joel Swerdlow. Stay tuned to The Archer Center Spotlight and follow us on Facebook and Instagram, as the Fellows wrap up their time in D.C. next month!

Archer Fellow Alumni Association Hosts Day of Service

This month, Archer Fellow Alumni Association (AFAA) chapters hosted volunteer activities as part of the AFAA's annual Day of Service. This tradition was established to honor Congressman Archer and recognize his birthday on March 22. D.C.-area alumni and current Archer Fellows made sandwiches for Martha's Table, an organization that serves D.C.'s underprivileged communities. Alumni in Austin assisted the Ronald McDonald House with making welcome packages for families staying there. "Our Day of Service continues to be a great way to carry on Congressman Archer's commitment to public service," said AFAA President Todd Hill. "This was our third year to organize service events, and several more chapters are planning to host additional community service events in the near future."
