The Archer Center Spotlight: January 2016

Spring 2016 Archer Fellows meet with Congressman Archer and Archer Center Advisory Board Chairman Don Carlson during their first week in D.C.

Spring 2016 Archer Fellows Arrive in D.C.

The Spring 2016 Archer Fellows arrived in the nation's capital this month. This cohort of 41 UT System students participated in the traditional Archer Center scavenger hunt, enjoyed a welcome reception with alumni, and spent their first weekend in D.C. learning from Dr. John Daly. They also started their internships with a wide variety of organizations, including National Public Radio, The Urban Institute, C-SPAN, the Embassy of Canada, and with various federal agencies and Congressional offices. The students also weathered Winter Storm Jonas together. The two feet of snow from the historic storm didn't stop the group from exploring their new city and even sledding down Capitol Hill! Stay tuned to The Archer Center Spotlight for updates on their semester and keep track of their adventures by following us on Facebook and Instagram.

Archer Center Celebrates 15th Anniversary

The Spring 2016 semester marks the 15th Anniversary of The Archer Center and Congressman Archer's legacy of inspiring young Texans to pursue lives of public service. The first cohort of Archer Fellows arrived in Washington in January 2001 and included 10 students from UT Austin. The Center now hosts more than 40 undergraduate students from all UT System campuses each semester, and offers the Graduate Program in Public Policy every summer.

To honor this milestone, the Center is hosting a series of events in Washington, D.C., and Texas beginning in April. These events will celebrate the previous 15 years of educating the next generation of leaders from Texas and raise funds for the next 15 years of Archer Fellows. Visit our website for sponsorship opportunities and event details. Contact Archer Center Director Katie Romano for questions.
