Puerto Rico suffered severe damage from Hurricane Irma. More than 100 homes were destroyed or damaged. Our sisters and brothers in that Commonwealth need help with rebuilding their homes and lives.
I am grateful for the support you have given to Episcopal Relief and Development and others for the victims of hurricanes. The need is great. I know your generosity has been great. As Puerto Rico is our companion diocese, I’m asking you to be even more generous.
The best and most efficient way we can help is to donate money. Right now the people of Puerto Rico need your financial assistance more than anything.
We have set up an easy way for you to give. We are collecting funds here at our diocesan center. Follow this link http://episcopalmaryland.org/rebuild-puerto-rico/ and make your gift. I will present our gift to Bishop Rafael Morales when I travel to the Diocese of Puerto Rico for their assembly on October 21.
The storm is over. The work has just begun. There will come a time when we will ask you to volunteer your time and talents in the rebuilding effort.
Let’s be the community of love I know us to be and help the people of Puerto Rico recover from this devastating hurricane.
Faithfully, and gratefully,
The Right Rev. Eugene Taylor Sutton
Bishop of Maryland
