Islandoracon is Coming

The Second Islandora Conference: May 15 - 19, 2017

http://islandora.ca/camps/conference2017

The first Islandora conference took place in Charlottetown, PEI, back in August of 2015. It was a rousing success, so we're doing it again, this time in Hamilton, Ontario.

The Islandora Foundation, with Islandoracon host McMaster University, invites you to join us May 15 - 19 for sessions, workshops, and the best opportunity you'll get to meet up with your fellow islandora users and share your knowledge.

Registration is open, with Early Bird rates until January 31st: http://islandora.ca/content/islandora-conference-registration

Call for Proposals

Our Call for Proposals is ongoing! Extended to January 13th, the field is wide open and we are actively seeking sessions. If you work with Islandora and have done something that you'd like to share with the community, please consider presenting a poster or 30 minute session: http://islandora.ca/camps/conference2017/cfp

Speakers get a discounted rate for conference registration.

Logo Contest

One of the features of Islandora events is the t-shirt given to all attendees. Every camp has its own logo, and so shall the conference. We want to give a free registration and an extra t-shirt to the Islandoracon attendee who comes up with the best logo to represent our second conference.

This was the logo the first time around:

Entries will be accepted through January 31st, 2016. Entries will be judged by the Planing Committee and a winner will be selected and announced in early February. Details here: http://islandora.ca/camps/conference2017/logo

Schedule

The detailed schedule is still pending, but the rough outline for the week goes like this:

Monday, May 15: Hackfest
Tuesday, May 16: Opening and General Sessions
Wednesday, May 17t: General Sessions
Thursday, May 18: Workshops
Friday, May 19: Post-Conference Sessions

The Hackfest will be styled to need participation from all sorts of skillsets, so please don't feel you have to be a developer to join in!

Workshops will be 90 minutes each, led by expert members of the Islandora community. They will cover the following topics:
  • Working with Linked Data and Ontologies
  • Islandora CLAW Overview
  • Solr Tuning and Solr Views
  • Working with Form Builder
  • Infrastructure and Performance
  • Islandora Scholar
  • Querying and SPARQL update
  • Islandora 101
Post-Conference Sessions will be a mix of longer/more specific workshops, Interest Groups meetings, working groups, and other content that doesn't fit into the main track of the conference.
