Nonpartisan Forum Explores Poverty, Opportunity & National Policy

More than 200 college students, community leaders, educators and others gathered at CSU on July 18 to hear local and national leaders discuss the causes and effects of poverty in Cleveland and around the country.

Student Spotlight: Katherine Wozniak
As the Office of Civic Engagement's graduate assistant, Katherine has worked on organizing events, working with undergraduate students and developing resources that improve the office's work. One of the opportunities she is most thankful for is networking. She will be leaving soon to teach Spanish at Saint Martin de Porres High School. Katherine is this month's featured student.

Faculty Invited to Participate in Public Sphere Pedagogy

Our Office is looking for faculty to participate in the Public Sphere Pedagogy (PSP) program. This year we're excited to announce that we'll delve into two relevant and important topics. In the Fall, PSP will explore topics dealing with lead and in the Spring PSP will explore the legacy of Carl and Louis Stokes

A workshop will be offered for faculty to learn more about bringing PSP to the classroom. Click here for info and to register.

RNC Plans Thank You Event for City of Cleveland
The Republican National Convention host committee announced a 'thank you' celebration for the City of Cleveland July 29-31 on the newly renovated Public Square. A performance by the Cleveland Orchestra and a fireworks show are scheduled.

Community Partner: Men's Shelter at 2100 Lakeside

Students in the CSU School of Nursing regularly work together provide free health screenings at locations like the homeless men's shelter 2100 Lakeside that include blood pressure, glucose readings, foot assessments and other consultations.

Save the Date: East 22nd Street Renovation Celebration
The revamp of East 22nd Street between CSU and Cuyahoga Community College is now complete. Join local public officials, community leaders and stakeholders who will reveal the long-awaited new infrastructure that includes bike lanes, an art mural and much more. Grab a bite from one of the food trucks then take a hike with a Downtown Cleveland Alliance Ambassador to experience the improvement project directly.
