2 Students Awarded Central Neighborhood Scholarship

The Office of Civic Engagement is proud to announce the 2016 Central Neighborhood Scholars.

Joseph Bowman (New Tech East) and April Willis (John Hay High School of Architecture and Design) were selected for the scholarship from dozens of applicants.

Lecture Oct. 26th Explores Syrian Refugee Experience

CSU's World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures department will host a free lecture on Oct. 26 at 12:15 p.m. in the Student Center, Room 311 A-B titled "Narratives of Border Crossing: Syrian Refugees in Germany."

The event will feature Dr. Isis Nusair, Associate Professor at Denison University. The lecture will analyze the narratives of refugees on border crossing and the agency they employed as they made their way into Europe.

Tickets Still Available for TedxCleveland State University

TEDxClevelandStateUniversity tickets are on sale now!

This year’s theme is “Reality Shifts: Are You Ready?” Local and nationally recognized speakers will discuss topics ranging from the role of women in society to technological disruption to gun violence and the central role amphibians play in our environment. The event will take place Oct. 21, 2016 at CSU.

Students are eligible for a discounted ticket rate. The event is expected to sell out, so early purchases are recommended.

Join Us for Free Discussion About Engaging Voters

CSU has been named as a stop on the national "Changing the Climate Tour" presented by Vestige Strategies and BET. The event will explore what's at stake for Black voters this election season and encourage voters to hit the polls.

The event will take place Oct. 25th at 4 p.m. in Main Classroom, Room 136.

Early Voting Underway in Ohio

Registered Ohio voters can go to their Board of Elections to Early Vote ahead of the Nov. 8th election.

To vote early in Cuyahoga County, head to the Board of Elections, a three-minute walk from campus. It is located at 2925 Euclid Ave. parking is available off of East 30th Street around the corner from the Main Entrance.

Clinton, Trump Plan Visits to Ohio This Week

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are returning to Cleveland this weekend.

Clinton will be speaking at Cuyahoga Community College on Oct. 21st. Doors open at 2:30 p.m.

Trump will be in Cleveland at the IX Center on Oct. 22nd at 7 p.m.

Featured Project: Leadership Academy

The Leadership Academy at the Maxine Levin Goodman College of Urban Affairs is a program geared at engaging public sector employees in discussions that will help them develop as leaders, with an emphasis on personal and organizational development. Participants meet at locations around the Cleveland area that showcase key employers and institutions.

Students Invited to Apply for Viking Corps Program

Viking Corps is a new program aimed at offering Cleveland State University students the opportunity to volunteer or work for pay at a local community-based organization. The goal of the program is to spark in students a lifelong commitment to civic engagement in areas they are passionate about through direct service opportunities.

Students can apply for two types of positions - paid or volunteer work.

Pledge to Vote Nov. 8th!

The team from Our Vote Matters will stop in Cleveland at various locations from Oct. 21st-Oct. 23rd. They'll provide information about checking voter registration status, how to early vote and what you need to know about voting at the polls Nov. 8th. The tour also offers visitors the opportunity to meet local celebrities and representatives from national Civil Rights groups like the Urban League.
