Hi <<First Name>>,

As summer rolls on and the temperatures keep rising, we’ll be applying that sunscreen, wearing those hats and refilling that handy water bottle. The summer sun and warm air are fun as long as you’re prepared, right? But what about taking care of those precious plants you’ve been tending to in the garden?

They need the sun, of course, but high temperatures and prolonged periods of direct sunlight can leave even our sturdiest, most sun-loving plants in sad shape. To keep your plants at their best – hydrated and happy -- here are some helpful tips for giving your garden all the tools it needs to beat the heat as we head into those long dog days of summer...

So long weeds! Greedy weeds compete with your plants for water. Remove any weeds as soon as they start coming up to ensure sure all that H20 is going where you want it to.

Rise and Shine! Watering early will give your plants the water they need before the heat of the day starts drying the soil…and your plants’ roots with it. Late watering is also an option - but even with plants, breakfast is the most important meal of the day!
Meet your new best friend. Mulch! By reapplying mulch regularly to your garden, you’ll help conserve the moisture in the soil making sure your roots absorb the water instead of the sun.
Stand up straight! Despite best watering efforts, some plants may still wilt slightly in the heat, leading them to gravitate towards the hot soil. Keep their perfect posture by tying the main stem to those trusty bamboo stakes.
