Olivia here, back again to talk about my favorite thing about spring -- outdoor parties and backyard BBQs! It goes without saying that any good party needs good food, but there’s no reason the snacks have to be full of unhealthy fats or preservatives! Our team at Olivia’s has come up with some healthy takes on classic party plates, from appetizers to dessert. Best of all, these spring party swaps are even more delicious than their original counterparts, and you can enjoy them guilt-free!

Here they are -- healthy and tasty spring party swaps!
Call ‘em hush puppies, call ‘em corn fritters, call ‘em whatever you want! They’re delicious, but are better left as a rare treat than a go-to party food. Swap out this heavy appetizer for a healthy kale and spinach fritter alternative. It’s packed with vitamin B6, vitamin E, potassium and those much-needed omega-3 fatty acids. Serve with a tasty sour cream or Greek yogurt dipping sauce. Guests will appreciate this new take on a Southern classic and won’t feel bad about reaching for seconds!
Most of us remember the casseroles that our mothers or grandmothers used to make. I know my mom has her own secret recipe! Without much prep, a casserole can feed a lot of hungry mouths, and they’re delicious! But sometimes, they’re filled with not-so-healthy stuff like condensed soup, white rice and processed cheese. Here’s some good news: Swapping out those items for healthier alternatives is no sweat! Try a brown rice and spinach bake with hearty brown rice, vitamin-rich spinach and mushrooms and two kinds of delicious cheese. Want to make it the star of your spring party? Throw in some shredded chicken with your favorite spices and make it the main dish.
Who doesn’t love ice cream over hot apple pie? But we all know that this delicious dessert is far from good for you. Substitute that entire sweet treat with something a little lighter and fresher to match the season. Swap it for a power blend acai bowl with fresh fruits and almond milk. Give party guests their choice of tasty toppings, like fresh fruit and crunchy granola. Acai, chock-full of antioxidants, fiber and omega-3 fatty acids, deserves it’s reputation as a Brazilian superfood. Don’t be surprised if it’s the hit of your spring party!
