Water Development and Good Governance national dialogue held

On September 27, the President’s Office, in collaboration with the Ministry of Nature, Environment and Tourism, organized a national dialogue under the theme “Water Development and Good Governance”. Participants exchanged views on water sector management and made a general recommendation to look for possibilities to establish a state administrative body in charge of the water sector. President Kh. Battulga instructed Cabinet to pay attention to implementing policy reforms and resolving pressing challenges in the sector.

Authorities plan to develop a satellite city near NUBIA

Minister of Construction and Urban Development Kh. Badyelkhan signed an agreement with senior officials of the Agency for Land Administration, Geodesy and Cartography and the Construction Development Center on developing concepts for the Mongolia’s Population Settlement Project. The minister stated, “To lower the high population concentration in Ulaanbaatar, it is necessary to implement the project. The UN and ADB will help us with regards to finalizing the project concept.” He added that a satellite city will be developed near the New Ulaanbaatar International Airport (NUBIA).

Online birth registration system to be introduced

The Ministry of Health, the National Statistical Office, and the General Authority for State Registration have created an integrated online database, which is to be introduced in Ulaanbaatar soon. Just after a new child is born at a hospital, the state registration database will directly register the newborn from the health database and issue a national identity number. According to statistics, 96 percent of childbirth in Mongolia happens in hospitals. Out-of-hospital births are expected to be registered with the state’s registration database within 24 hours.

WTO cuts global trade growth forecast to 3.9 percent
|

On September 27, the World Trade Organization (WTO) downgraded its global trade growth forecast for 2018 to 3.9 percent from 4.4 percent, projected last April, amid U.S. and China import tariff disputes. The WTO warned about a possible contraction of the global economy, which has been recovering since the 2008 financial crisis, and emphasized a noticeable decline in global investment.
