Protest to dismiss M. Enkhbold takes place at Sukhbaatar Square
A reported 20,000 people protested at Sukhbaatar Square on Thursday, calling for the dismissal of Speaker of Parliament M. Enkhbold, after the Speaker refused to resign at the request of Members of Parliament (MP). During the protest, MP L. Oyun-Erdene stated that if M. Enkhbold doesn’t resign soon, they will hold a second round of protests throughout Mongolia. Other MPs said that MANAN (the caucuses of the Mongolian People’s Party and the Democratic Party) must dissolve, along with the speaker’s dismissal.

Top five foreign investments in 2018
The government named the top five foreign investments of 2018, which are helping to improve bilateral relations and Mongolian economics. The top five investments include a 500 million USD investment from South Korea to reduce air pollution and build thermal power plants in 10 provinces; a 1 billion USD investment from India  to build an oil refinery in Altanshiree, Dornogobi Province; a 300 million USD investment from China to build a new wastewater treatment plant in Ulaanbaatar; a 350 million USD investment from the United States to provide a sustainable supply of water to Ulaanbaatar; and a 25 million USD investment from Hungary to improve livestock health.

2018 livestock census conducted
The National Statistical Office reported that Mongolia’s total number of livestock reached 66.5 million by December 2018, rising by 0.4 percent compared to the same period in 2017. The annual census takes place from December 7 to December 17. Horses make up 5.9 percent of all livestock, 6.6 percent are cattle, 0.7 percent are camels, 46 percent are sheep, and 40.8 percent are goats. The highest numbers of livestock were counted in Khuvsgul Province, and in Umnudelger soum, Khentii Province.

New Mayor of Ulaanbaatar to be appointed today
The Citizens’ Representative Khural will meet today to appoint a new Mayor of Ulaanbaatar. Probable candidates are the Chairman of the Citizens’ Representative Khural S. Amarsaikhan, Chief Executive Officer of Erdenes Oyu Tolgoi LLC B. Munkhbaatar, Head of the General Consulate of Mongolia in Irkutsk L. Amarsanaa, and Deputy Governor of Ulaanbaatar in Charge of Green Development and Air Pollution J. Batbayasgalan. Former Mayor Batbold resigned at the request of Prime Minister U. Khurelsukh.
