Land in 60 soums to be identified as farming zones

Summary:

Based on resolutions set by the Citizens’ Representative Khurals of several provinces and a proposal from the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, during its regular session on May 16, Cabinet approved a resolution to set specific farming zones in 60 soums. The farming zones include territories in 113 baghs in seven provinces. According to ministry officials, this decision would improve the use of farming areas, increase productivity, and protect soil fertility and the environment. Since 1990, the number of herders migrating to farming areas has increased dramatically, resulting in disputes between herders and farmers. Cabinet hopes that the decision will help end conflicts which have lasted for years.
