Constitutional Court sets date to review petition on Khentii aimag by-election schedule

Summary:

Certain lawyers submitted a petition to the Constitutional Court stating that the State Great Khural resolution no.62 on settling date for the Khentii aimag or 42nd constituency of the Parliament by-election violates several provisions of the Constitutional Law. The lawyers argue that the by-election date proposed by the SGH breaks the principle of all citizens’ equality before the law, therefore limiting some citizens’ rights to run for the election. On August 22, the Constitutional Court will convene to discuss and review the petition. Depending on the decision of the Constitutional Court, Khentii aimag’s by-election date will be finalized.
