Tourism Ministerial Meeting to be held in Ulaanbaatar


On July 9 and 10, the Tourism Ministerial Meeting will be held in Ulaanbaatar between Mongolia, the People’s Republic of China, and the Russian Federation, to discuss the development of cross-border tourism and to share expertize in the tourism sector. Officials from the Mongolian Ministry of Environment, Nature and Tourism and representatives of Mongolian tour operators will attend the Meeting. While the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Luo Shugang, will lead the delegation from the People’s Republic of China, representatives from the Russian Federation will be headed by Oleg Safonov, Head of the Federal Agency for Tourism.​

Speaker of Parliament meets UNFPA Asia-Pacific Regional Director


On July 5, the Speaker of Parliament, M. Enkbold, received the UNFPA Asia-Pacific Regional Director, Bjorn Andersson. The discussion focused on population ageing, gender equality, youth empowerment and reproductive health.  Director Andersson specifically addressed UNFPA projects and programs in Mongolia regarding the aforementioned issues, the state authorities’ participation in the implementation of the projects, and he highlighted the key points for consideration. He stated, “The telemedicine network program in Mongolia implemented by the UN Population Fund has brought tangible benefits in terms of reducing maternal death risks in remote areas, a practice which could be applied in other countries.”​

Government offers 542 MNT per share for Mongolia Telecom Company buyout


The Cabinet has released an offer to buy Mongolia Telecom Company stocks at 542 MNT per share. Korea Telecom Corporation previously held 40 percent of the shares of the Mongolia Telecom Company before transferring its ownership to the Government of Mongolia last April. The total amount of shares owned by the Cabinet now stands at 94.67 percent. According to the Company Law and the Securities Law of Mongolia, a shareholder of the controlling block of a company is permitted to make a public offer to purchase the remaining shares. In line with these regulations, Cabinet has announced its intention to buy the remaining 1.3 million shares from other shareholders. The offer of purchase will be valid for one month starting from July 9. The market capitalization of the company currently stands at 12.4 billion MNT on the Mongolian Stock Exchange. ​

Refined coal to be available at 390 points across six districts in Ulaanbaatar


Cabinet has issued a decree to ban the use of raw coal from April 2019. The Ulaanbaatar Mayor’s Office is to take the lead in ensuring the availability of refined coal to ger district households. To kick start implementation of the decree, the Ulaanbaatar City Council approved an action plan on July 5. According to the action plan, 390 sales points for refined coal will be set up in six central districts of Ulaanbaatar. ​
