The Community Bike Kitchen celebrates over 2 years of spreading the love of bicycling in Eureka.

How the time has flown by! Eureka’s local bike kitchen first opened in June 2013 as a place where people could learn bike maintenance skills and find low-cost or no-cost used bicycles. For the past two years, the bike kitchen has thrived as a hands-on workshop – providing tools, space and mechanics’ knowledge for bike repair and providing volunteer opportunities to earn a new set of wheels.

We couldn’t have gotten this far without the dedication of dozens of committed volunteers, community partners and generous foundations including the Jefferson Community Center, Adventure’s Edge, Humboldt State University Police Department, Eureka Police Department, New Belgium Brewing Company, the Northern California Grassroots Fund of the Rose Foundation,
Humboldt Area Foundation and numerous individuals.

There continues to be numerous opportunities to get involved in the bike kitchen – stop by during open hours Tuesdays and Wednesdays 6-8pm to volunteer, or contact the bike kitchen at 707-269-2061 if you are interested in donating or lending your bike-wrenching skills.

Ride on!

New Screenprint

Check out our mechanics sporting the new Community Bike Kitchen screen print! Keep an eye out for bike kitchen screen-printed shirts coming soon this summer. And many thanks to Hinterland for the screen and to mechanic Cinthia Garcia for all her printing skills.

Bike Kitchen Member Profile

In early July, Jessica visited the bike kitchen for the first time looking for a new, low-cost bike, as she had to leave her old bike in her hometown in southern California. She found a bike that same day that will help her cut her commute time to her job at the SEEDs after-school program at the Jefferson Community Center. We love helping new folks find an affordable pair of wheels that suits their needs!

Have an old bike, tools or parts to donate? The Community Bike Kitchen gladly accepts donations during open hours or call (707) 269-2061 for more information. Donations are also tax-deductible through our fiscal sponsorship with local non-profit Redwood Community Action Agency.

The Community Bike Kitchen open hours are Tuesday and Wednesday evenings 6-8pm. We are located in the Jefferson Community Center at 1000 B Street, Eureka.
