Soon Bike Kitchen to Relocate Within Jefferson Community Center

The Bike Kitchen will be relocating this winter to a different space at the Jefferson Community Center. To get our new space ready, we will be redesigning our storage systems at the Bike Kitchen. Community support will be instrumental in realizing the move! Stay tuned for a moving party/garage sale! Any donations will be put to good use for the move.

Support the Bike Kitchen by Volunteering at the
Humboldt Bay Marathon

The Humboldt Bay Marathon will be taking place Sunday, August 14th and volunteers are needed! The Humboldt Bay Marathon organization will donate $150 per volunteer to their associated community organization (such as the Community Bike Kitchen). Volunteers are needed anytime between 7:00am to 2:00pm to help flag/direct runners at intersections and to pick up signs and barricades after the event.
Contact Rich directly at or 707-502-7518 if you are able to assist or have questions. Remember to say you are with the Community Bike Kitchen.

Bike Kitchen Member Profile

Melanie Williams
Melanie Williams has been a Bike Kitchen member and supporter since our inception over three years ago. Several times a year she has generously donated gently used cycling gear and parts to the Bike Kitchen. However, that is certainly not all she does to support bicycling in our community.

Melanie has been a lifelong educator and cares deeply about public education. As such she leads the effort to include bicycle and pedestrian education in public schools in Humboldt County. Melanie has probably done more than anyone in the area to promote children’s use of bicycles for transportation. Through her small business,, Melanie empowers youth at multiple schools through after school “bike clubs” and engages schools and families through Safe Routes to School efforts. Melanie has led numerous other youth and family cycling opportunities in Humboldt County including Kidical Mass, Ride for Reading and the family tour at the Tour of the Unknown Coast.

Besides teaching how to ride safely, she sees her role to help kids have the opportunity to play and explore their own neighborhood with curiosity, safety and empowerment. But it is not just cycling for cycling’s sake that Melanie loves and teaches – she firmly believes that social and environmental justice can be achieved through bicycling. A belief we share at the bike kitchen!

Thank you Melanie!

Ongoing Activities at the Eureka Community Bike Kitchen

Regular Bike Kitchen Open Hours

The Community Bike Kitchen's general open hours are Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jefferson Community Center at 1000 B Street, Eureka.

Women and Trans Open Hours

12-2 p.m. on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays of every month!

During these hours, the shop will be operated by women, trans or genderqueer volunteers, and will be open exclusively to folks who identify as such. This program is a conscious effort to create a safe and welcoming space that encourages more women and gender minorities to learn, share, and participate. By addressing the special needs of certain groups, we hope to create a stronger, more inclusive and diverse biking community overall.

The Bike Kitchen needs volunteers to help to run this program! If you are interested in being involved, learning more about bike mechanics, or already have mechanical skills that you’d like to share, please contact Sage at

Our Friday bicycle maintenance workshops have been a great success! There is still much more to come! See the schedule below for upcoming workshops where you can learn more about how to maintain your bicycle!
