As you are well aware, we are now in peak hurricane season. While our official hurricane season runs from June 1 – November 30, late August and September bring the most storms to Florida. Recently, Hurricane Hermine reminded us all of the potential damage a storm can do to our area.
If you have not reviewed your home insurance before now, please make an effort to do so. Once there is a watch or warning issued for any tropical system, we are unable to bind new coverage and we are unable to make changes to existing policies. Don’t wait for the storm to find out you don’t have the proper coverage.
Make sure you have a plan. Many of us live in areas that require mandatory evacuations when a storm is threatening. Have a hurricane plan for your family and don’t forget your pets’ needs.
If you do sustain storm damage, be it wind or flood; refer first to your policy declaration page which lists the direct number to the company’s claims department. Of course, we are here to help you navigate the claims process should you need us.

Coinsurance Can Cause Chaos
If you have a business insurance policy that covers property you need to know about the coinsurance clause. Not knowing how this clause effects your coverage could cause problems if you were to have a claim. Read more in our Commercial Account Executive, Brian Ford's, latest blog. Get informed here!
Steps to Take After a Hurricane
As we have witnessed in the past, St. Petersburg is home to storms of all shapes and sizes. Hurricane preparation is often stressed, but post-hurricane safety is just as important, especially in a city prone to flooding. Here are some tips to help promote safety and prevent injury:
Be alert and aware of flooding. Even though a storm may have passed, flooding can continue for days.
Avoid driving on flooded roads and compromised bridges.
Be careful using tap water. Water can become contaminated during storms.
Assess your house and property for any damage as soon as possible. Make sure to photograph any damage and inform your insurance company as soon as possible.
Make sure to continue watching and listening to local news stations and weather reports. They will notify residents of all important alerts and updates after the storm has passed.
Report any down wires and power lines to your local power company immediately. Do not go near them.
Make sure you stay safe, before and after each storm, this hurricane season.
