The Ohio Technology and Engineering Educators Association will host its Technology and Engineering Showcase at the Ohio State Fair, July 29 through August 9. The Showcase will feature:
- Student exhibits of design projects and problem-based learning activities by elementary, middle and high school students
- Technology experiences provided by volunteers from technical societies, businesses, industry and universities
- Resource displays of STEM materials and curriculum designed to promote technological literacy
- Hands-on activities provided at several family activity learning centers, many of which are self-guided.
Participants organizations include include the Ohio State University College of Engineering, Believe in Ohio Entrepreneurship, Akron Polymer Academy, Ohio Fue Cell Coalition, Columbus Idea Foundry, TRECA Digital Academy, Assistive Technology of Ohio, OSU water robotics team, Home Depot DIY projects for children, VEX robotics demonstrations, the OSU Center for Automotive Research, Segway rides, DLZ Hovercraft, Invention Convention, Ohio Resource Center, and the All American Soap Box Derby Gravity Racing Challenge.
Participating schools include Olentangy Liberty High School, Dublin City Schools, Columbus Starling Middle School, Vandalia-Butler High School, Cincinnati Princeton High School, Westlake High School, Cuyahoga Falls High School and Columbus Northland High School.
Special events will include an elementary STEM resources fair on August 5 and 6. This resource fair will offer hands-on experience of available elementary STEM resources for parents and teachers. Resources will include those from KEVA Planks, Brackitz construction system, Finch Robot, Edison Robot, Celeste Bain Engineering Educator materials, Illinois State University’s CeMaST materiasl, PinBlocks Snap Circuits, MakeDo construction system, and Little Bits Electronics. The resource fair sessions will be held from 10 to 11 AM and 2 to 3 PM on Wednesday August 5, as well as 11 to 12 on Thursday August 6.
In addition, Gary Greenberg from Cincinnati Educational Television will be hosting a Makers and Shakers workshop from 1 to 4 PM on Thursday, August 6.
