International Paper Court Case Update:

The court case involving International Paper and the Isle of Wight County Board of Supervisors is finally over.

After months of court filings, depositions, research and witness testimony, the Courts have ruled in Isle of Wight County’s favor and dismissed International Paper’s lawsuit regarding real estate and property assessments.  The Judge’s ruling denies the company millions of dollars in refunds it was seeking based on past real estate and property assessments.  While the courts did require the County to provide a refund of approximately $150,000 for the correction of assessments related to a turbine generator, the amount refunded represents a small fraction of the millions of dollars of refunds International Paper was seeking in the lawsuit.

Special thanks go to the County’s legal team.
Upgraded Emergency Communications System

The County recently reached another major milestone this week when public safety dispatch personnel were moved into the new E911 center.  Testing of the E911 telephone lines and the new communications equipment is going well and phase-in of the new equipment (including pagers and radios) for public safety personnel is currently underway.

The facility renovations and equipment installation are part of a multi-million dollar investment the County is making to significantly upgrade its emergency communications system.  The new system will improve safety conditions for public safety personnel and enhance the County’s local and regional communications and response capabilities.
