Dear Citizens,

The Board of Supervisors adopted the County’s Fiscal Year 2019-20 budget on May 9, 2019.  Highlights of the budget include:
  • No change in the real estate tax rate of $0.85 for the sixth year in a row.
  • No change in personal property tax rate or machinery and tools tax rate
  • Increase of $1,048,106 in funding for Schools
  • Increase of 4.4% in tax values due to reassessment
  • New fire engine for Rushmere VFD and new ambulance for Windsor VRS
  • $1,950,000 in capital funding for Schools
A portion of the capital funding for Schools ($950,000) has been designated for preliminary design and planning for renovation or replacement of Hardy Elementary School.  The Board of Supervisors has also approved a contract with a construction consulting firm to provide a detailed estimate comparing the cost of renovating Hardy Elementary versus replacing the school with a new building. We anticipate receiving that report in June so that the Board’s Capital Improvement Committee can consider that information when they begin meeting this summer to set priorities for next year’s Capital Improvement Plan.
