April Newsletter

Well, it certainly has been an interesting month and we hope everyone is safe and well.  As the situation evolves we are doing our best to still providing excellent educational and networking opportunities for the community.  We know that many of us are sheltering in place and have a lot of extra time on our hands.  This is a great time to either study up on a new skill/technology that you have always wanted to know or to put your coding skills to work helping out one of the many useful projects looking for assistance.

To help with this we have added a page on the website ( where we are collecting links to resources such as free/discounted educational resources, projects looking for assistance, raw data feeds, etc.  If you have any additional resources to add to this page then please contact Dave Bechberger in Slack to get it added.
Additionally, to help us all maintain human contact throughout we have a new Slack channel added:
  • #coffeeshop - Want to meet other members?  Need some human interaction while working from home?  Come and join the coffee shop channel and each week you will be randomly paired up with another member to set up a time to have a call.  This is a great way to meet other members or just take a nice little break from the day to day drudgery.
Finally, as with last month's meetup, our meetup for this month will be virtual-only, the details are below.

Featured Project

COVID-19 has presented several challenges for people struggling with substance abuse. 12 step members are no longer able to attend meetings and addicts are being pulled from in-person treatment. Mobile-based addiction treatment is needed now more than ever before, yet the many addiction apps available do not provide users with proven tools to change their behavior. In response to this crisis, Alyse Daunis is founding a startup that will be building a mobile app rooted in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) giving people the tools they need to change their addictive substance use habits. Alyse is a UI/UX Designer and entrepreneur that has been helping startups launch for the last 7 years. She’s looking for help to get this product into the hands of people in need ASAP. If you’re interested in learning more about this startup, have ideas or resources, or are interested in lending a hand, please DM Alyse on slack.
