Alaska Developer Alliance

Dev Alliance Event #2 - August 2nd, 7pm @ The Boardroom AK

It has been a whirlwind the past couple of months getting this off the ground. Thank you to James Clancey for being our first speaker. We had 27 people show up on a Monday night at 7pm which continued onto 9:40 with people passionate about technology and learning out of interest. We've also gotten a lot of interest from employers and I got a ton of good feedback/constructive criticism.

1. Alternate between knowledge talks and tech talks. This will allow us to play with new technologies AND learn how we can advance our careers.
2. Lock down the schedule to be more specific for folks during the work week.
3. Add a venue after the speaker for those wanting to continue the conversation with food / beverage options.

Event #2(Tech Talk) - August 2nd, Adam Levy and Jeff Levin Present on their experiences at and intro to Docker
You're encouraged to install the docker daemon on your computer and bring your laptop. We'll do some individual hacking either at The Boardroom or the PubHouse.

6:45pm meet and greet @ The Boardroom AK
7:00pm talk
7:45pm QA
8:05pm move over to the PubHouse in the Inlet Towers for beverages and food / hacking

Get involved!

There are a few projects I'd like to crowdsource

Logo Contest
Do you have any artistic prowess or any friends that do? The AK Dev Alliance needs some sweet branding for stickers, hoodies, and t-shirts. Submit your logo ideas, we'll take a group vote, and if your logo wins you'll get the first piece of AK Dev Alliance swag EVER created along with bragging rights and a crown with the logo on it that you can wear to every Alliance meeting / hackathon / event with distinction.

What are you working on?
Have an interesting topic you want to share or want to practice your speaking skills? I'd love to hear about it. I'm looking to put together an event with 3-4 "lightning" rounds for developers to talk about their subject. Shoot an email to if you're interested.

Mentorship opportunities / Coding projects
Do you have a project you could use a second set of eyes on or some man hours? There are quite a few developers looking for interesting projects to work on either as side projects or as mentor/mentee relationship. If you've got a project you'd like to share with the group either as a presentation or to work with someone on, we'd love to help match that up. Shoot an email to talking about your project and we'll go from there.

Financial sponsorships
If you believe in what we're doing, we would love your help with financial sponsorship. This money will go toward dev alliance swag, meeting space, and other resources to help build momentum for the organization. In the future it is our goal to bring up speakers/teachers and help provide scholarships for members to go to a conference and share what they've learned with the group at our events.

As always, this is a community organization. If you've got any input or want to help in any way that hasn't been communicated, get in touch.
See you August 2nd at 7pm for Event #2!
