SIS WEEKLY
深圳蛇口国际学校周报

Dear SIS Community,

I was asked this week about the educational market in Shenzhen. We have a very busy market here with many new schools recently opening or planned for the future. By and far, this is a good thing for the children of Shenzhen.
Having more choice is good for families, and the increasing competition should improve the overall standard of education in schools.
Choice can be difficult. We know that you make a choice to come to SIS, and that some families are forced to move to other cities. Here are some important elements that parents should consider in making choices.
The world is increasingly global and connected. I think this means that families should be looking for a school that offers a truly international perspective in learning and within the community.
The daily support of family is critical to success. This means that children will benefit from living with their parents, particularly through adolescence when life pressures can be so challenging.
A consistent learning approach helps children to succeed. This means that families should choose a school and stick with it. There are benefits from being in the same system of learning for a long period. That's partly why the International Baccalaureate is so successful.
Teaching expertise really matters. Research is clear. Good teaching makes the difference. Choose a school with qualified and experienced teachers. There is a difference between having a degree and being a teacher.  Look for a school which hires real teachers invests in continuous training.

There are good schools all over the world. Finding the school that prepares your child for the future you want is a difficult choice. I appreciate that you have made the decision to come to SIS and that you continue to help us to inspire your child for their future success.
