I am very pleased to welcome everyone back to the beginning of 2021. There are many signs that we have much to look forward to over the coming months as a school and in our society.
We continue to see the return of teachers and families to Shenzhen and into our school. Travel arrangements have been slow and challenging, so we are always happy when friends are able to return to our caring community. It is always gratifying to see the welcome that they receive.
We are all still under the influence of the pandemic, of course.
Our dedicated facilities team spent time over the vacation period ensuring that all equipment and rooms were given special attention to have the highest standard of cleanliness and hygiene.
We noted that the local health authorities have added an extra seven days to the quarantine arrangements for those returning to China. We support all measures that will continue to keep our community safe.
We received a recommendation from the authorities that all members of the community refrain from traveling through the upcoming Spring Festival holiday. This period has traditionally been a very busy period for travel which could pose a threat to our record of safety. I ask that our community carefully consider the need for any travel outside of Shenzhen over the holiday period.
Recent increased concern, particularly in the north of the country, has led to some larger activities being postponed. We continue to seek ways to bring parents back onto the campus and increase access to the learning program as partners, but I hope you can appreciate that safety must be our first consideration.
We do expect there to be further announcements in the future about travel and vaccinations and other measures as we hopefully come to the end of the pandemic. We will pass these on to you as soon as we are informed.
Our new campus project is progressing well. The building is in the final stages of work and the spaces are becoming very exciting to see as they are converted from a building site into something that is clearly SIS learning spaces. We should gain access to the building next month and will commence tours and special events in the space as a soft opening process that helps to ensure our students and families feel comfortable in the transition from Bayside to Net Valley.
The new campus offers many of the features that made Bayside so special for our students and teachers, and expands the space and creates some new areas for Design and Arts. I think you will love the new library space too that encourages people to explore all our resources in a welcoming space. Maybe most popular will be the PSA room which is on the ground floor and will allow our great Parent Support Association to be more accessible to the community.
Many thanks for your continuing support.
