Monthly Highlights -  April 2017
Edition 30
Springfield School
Future Choices Day

Over 240 year 8 students took part in the Future Choices day on 25th April at Springfield School.
All students took part in speed networking, meeting a total of 10 business people during the sessions.  The business people that took part ranged from solicitors, NHS employees, Engineers, Royal Navy personnel, HMRC employees, Charity and Job Centre Plus employees.

Local Colleges provided students with information about A levels and Vocational qualifications. Guidance was given on how to complete a college application form and how to write a personal statement for university.

The day also included a session on Apprenticeships, where students were given an explanation of how apprenticeships work and the different sectors providing apprenticeship opportunities.

The Cowplain School

The end of April saw mentors and students bidding a fond farewell following the end of a successful two year mentoring programme.

The aims of the mentoring programme were to:

Grow confidence within pupils and help them recognise and achieve their potential
Engage in future planning
Increase their resilience

Over the last two years 16 mentors and students from The Cowplain School have met once a fortnight at school.  Mentors listened, encouraged and supported students, helping them gain confidence and motivation during the most important period of their school career.
