Finance update

Central Plains budget slid further into the red in the month of August.  Income for the month came in at $16,208.68.  Meanwhile, expenses were lower than normal at $29,421.34.  As a result, the fiscal year deficit increases to $19,833.38.  The good news is this is lower than the loss we typical experience during this time in years past.  We are thankful for all of your contributions!  Stewardship Task Group

Nurture your relationship with the Bible

Our first Bible Study Webinar had a great attendance of about 50 connections and at least 140 participants. Meghan Good's enthusiasm for the Bible and talent for teaching was quite clear. Plan to join the next two!

Everyone is welcome, but Sunday School teachers, Bible study leaders and small group facilitators are especially encouraged to participate.  This opportunity grows out of our Covenant of Spiritual Practices, in which we covenant to study the Bible together and with our neighbors. Each webinar will last from 75-90 minutes.

Here are the dates and session titles:
September 12  Between Joints and Marrow: An Introduction to the Art of Biblical Interpretation
October 24  A Two-Edged Sword: Reading the Bible Like an Anabaptist
November 21  Living and Active: Where the Bible Came From and Why it Matters

You will find an RSVP form and complete descriptions on the Bible Study Webinars page at

Call to prayer and fasting for the Villatoros
Friends of Pastor Max and Central Plains conference ministers invite you to set aside one meal on the first Tuesday of every month to fast and pray that God will make a way for Max and Gloria Villatoro to reunite their family.
We chose the first Tuesday of the month because Max was arrested by ICE on the first Tuesday. You can get creative about how you fast and pray: for example, get together with a friend over lunch and pray together. If the first Tuesday isn't good for you, do it when it works for you.
Congregations, please remember the Villatoros in prayer on the first Sunday of every month.

Pastors, might God be calling you to transitional ministry?

Transitional ministry has a unique place in the mission of the church. While "interim pastors" have for many years provided preaching and pastoral care between pastors, "transitional ministry" involves training to lead congregations through a process of preparation for entering a new chapter of leadership for a congregation.

Central Plains relies on a small cohort of trained transitional pastors--would you consider being a transitional pastor? The training will be offered October 31 through November 4 at Amigo Center near Sturgis, Michigan. Go to for more information, brochure and registration material. –Tim Detweiler
