COVID-19 is affecting us all; please pray for us!!!!!

March2020 e-news

Dear valued volunteers & readers

Due to County directives concerning the COVID-19, we have modified our gatherings drastically. No one is allowed to congregate at any of our locations. But fortunately for those we serve, SLM is considered emergency services and we have been asked by the city to please continue to provide food. Therefore, we are serving to-go boxes of food and hygiene kits, maintaining the required 6’ spacing by serving one person at a time. We will have Worship music playing in the background while serving, but no message. We are starting the food service earlier at all sites - 7:30pm to allow more time to safely serve by spreading out the lines.

I am asking all of you that are scheduled to serve for SLM to please continue to show up to serve and pray for our folks and share words of love and encouragement. We are following recommended guidelines regarding social distancing and availability of gloves and sanitizer.

Our folks need to see you all there continuing to show your support. This is a time when we need to show solidarity and living out Christ in our behavior.

With that being said, I do understand that if you have physical conditions, fall under a higher risk category, or have family situations that might keep you from coming and serving. Please know I completely understand. Please let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend.

We are doing everything we can to keep serving our loved ones living on the streets and keep everyone safe at the same time. Please pray for us all that we can continue sharing the word of God and a delicious hot meal with love to our folks and the country gets ahead of this soon.

Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.
— Proverbs 19:17

Well isn't that a daisy? Street Life has hired me. Looks like I'm going to be the RWC Site Facilities Manager, Director of Security, and I.T. for the Ministry. Pretty cool. I've been a part of Street Life since I was still homeless, so it feels really natural to be moving into this position. Should be pretty seamless...

Been working a lot with D. He's a great dude. He went down with heart failure and COPD recently.  His doctor said he must quit the meth or die. In D's own words - "Dude, when a doc tells ya it's time to stop, you listen." He flipped a 180 practically overnight. He calls me almost every day, he's taking care of the responsibilities he has, and he got into the Shelter. I'm proud of him every single day because it's so obvious he's trying to change into the guy he was meant to be and witnessing it is awesome.

We are Street Life. We see and hear stories like this a lot. Some folks rise, some stumble, and some fall. We stand ready to help if you're sick and tired of being sick and tired. It all depends on you. When you feel like no one cares, we're there. When you think you just can't do this anymore, we're there. It was Jesus that said, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” in Matthew 25:40.

We're all just trying to do better than we did the day before, when it all comes down to it.

I can't think of a single place I'd rather be. Street Life is my home. Street Life is my purpose. I was born to do this.

See you on the streets

This is a great opportunity for your company to get involved with helping those who live on the streets and for team building within your company.  If you are interested in getting more details on how you can do this, please contact Vicky Lanzone.
