Launch of The Belonging Project Website



The Belonging Project has launched a new website aimed at making our communities, schools and businesses more inclusive by raising awareness and providing strategies for inclusion.
Children with additional needs sometimes understand what they see, hear or feel in a different way to many people.
 

Links to Learning Boys Win Award in Nimbin Youth Film Comp


 
The Links to Learning Nimbin boys recently received an Encouragement award for creativity collaboration and concept as well as winning 2nd place in the skate section for their submission into the Nimbin Youth Film Competition.

Free AOD Group Program

A free group for people with Alcohol and Other Drug problems will start in 2016 on a Tuesday evening in Lismore. The six-week peer group program will discuss the physical, emotional and psychological aspects of drug abuse and the impact this has on self and family.
 

New Parenting Programs

Interrelate is offering two great parenting programs coming up in February, 2016: Circle of Security Parenting, Tuesdays, 10am – 1pm, Feb 16 – March 22 and Tuning Into Kids: Emotionally Intelligent Parenting on Mondays, 10am – 1pm, February 8 – March 15.
 

Carer Gateway Launched

Healthdirect Australia is pleased to announce that Carer Gateway, developed with the Department of Social Services (DSS), has officially launched and is available via www.carergateway.gov.au or by phone 1800 422 737.
 

Carers Community Group

Carers make up a huge part of our community. The Carers’ Community Group, presented by the Women’s Health Forum, is an opportunity for carers to learn how to better support themselves and to connect, share and learn from other carers within the community.
 

Foodbank in G’bah

Crossroads Church, at 4 Pignat Place Goonellabah, is commencing a Foodbank on Thursday Dec 3 and every successive Thursday between the hours of 10.00am and 1.00pm. It will be called Crossroads Care. Groceries will be offered at discounted prices.
 

New Hoist Provides Pool Access for All

People with a disability will now have easier access to their local pool thanks to a partnership between Lismore City Council, its Access Committee and a local business. A new pool hoist at the Baths now allows people with mobility issues to be lifted into the water.
 

Musical Therapy Workshops

Musical Therapy Workshops are being held in Brisbane in January 2016 for children on the autism spectrum. Session 1- Open to 4-6yr olds diagnosed with ASD, entering or repeating Prep in 2016 Session 2 -Open to 5-8yr olds with high functioning Autism/Aspergers.

NCOSS: Social and Affordable Housing Fund

NCOSS members recently attended a briefing on the Social and Affordable Housing Fund. This marks the beginning of the first phase of the SAHF and the community sector will be at the forefront of this process, putting forward proposals that will make a real difference.

Infoxchange is a company that uses technology to try and create a fairer Australia. They are researching broadband connection and use among Australia’s social housing residents.

IKEA® Living Local Community Grants

The IKEA Living Local Community Grants are about combining IKEA products and home furnishing expertise and co-worker volunteer leave days to ‘makeover’ a room or a space in a local not-for-profit or charity organisation.
 

National Stronger Regions Fund: Round 3 Opens Soon

The Australian Government has announced $293 million to fund 111 projects to help deliver economic benefits to communities around Australia through Round Two of the National Stronger Regions Fund. Over $22m of funding will be supporting projects in the Northern Rivers. Round 3 of the National Stronger Regions Fund will open for applications on 15 January 2016 and close 15 March 2016.
 

Catalyst – Australian Arts and Culture Fund

A new funding program for the arts has just been announced. The program has a stated priority of supporting projects that encourage access to high quality arts experiences in regional communities.

Dementia Care Education – Engaging in Meaningful Activities at Home

For the primary carer, the ability to keep someone living with dementia involved in activities they previously enjoyed may become more challenging.
 

Standard Mental Health First Aid

March 1, 2016 - March 2, 2016
The 2 day, 12-hour Mental Health First Aid course teaches adults (18 years and over) how to provide initial support to adults who are developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis.
 

Hoarding and Squalor Information Session

March 9, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm
A compressive look at the topic of Hoarding and Squalor using up to date industry information, and an introductory discussion on effective working practices.

Aboriginal Youth and Family Worker-Reconnect and Getting It Together (GIT)

We are looking for a suitably skilled Aboriginal person to join our team.
The Reconnect program provides counselling, mediation and practical support to whole families where a young person, aged 12-18, is homeless or is potentially homeless. Getting It Together (GIT) provides case management support to young people who have problematic A&OD use.
This position requires well developed skills and knowledge of relevant interventions which may assist vulnerable Aboriginal families and young people.

Computer Clubhouse Coordinator – Casual

An opportunity exists for a Computer Clubhouse Coordinator to provide casual backfill for the current Clubhouse Coordinator, and is jointly responsible for the oversight and coordination of the Lismore Clubhouse.
