Northern Rivers Housing Conference: Be Part of the Solution!

The Everybody Needs a Home conference held at Lennox Head on Thursday, August 6, attracted 150 people and generated some fantastic ideas and examples of how we can tackle affordable housing issues in the region.

   
 The housing conference explored the theme of housing supply and asked the question: "How can we work together to increase the opportunities for every member of our community to have a home?"

ASIC Helps Indigenous Consumers Avoid Funeral Rip-Offs

ASIC has joined ACCC and other consumer protection agencies across Australia to launch the Avoid a funeral rip-off campaign—a joint initiative of Australia’s Commonwealth, state and territory consumer protection agencies, through the National Indigenous Consumer Strategy (NICS) Reference Group.

Market Research Young Gay Men 18-22

ACON is seeking market research participants aged 18-22 to help give information on emerging media use trends for Ending HIV, as well as feedback for the Young Gay Men’s Project engagement and future directions. Participants will be paid $150 on completion of the research, so it’s a nice incentive to take part.

A Review of the Definition of Volunteering was initiated in late 2013. The VA Board, at its meeting held on 23 July 2015, formally endorsed the new definition and supporting explanatory notes.

Byron Bay ‘Holding the Man’ Charity Screening to Help End HIV

A special screening in Byron Bay of new Australian film Holding The Man is set to help raise money to end HIV transmission in NSW.
The  pre-release screening of the highly anticipated film will take place at the Palace Cinema in Byron Bay on Sunday 23 August and will be a fundraiser for ACON, New South Wales’ leading HIV prevention, HIV support and LGBTI* health organisation.

The next Byron Shire Interagency Quarterly Meeting will be held: Wednesday 19 August 9.30am - 11.30am at the Cavanbah Centre (previously known as Byron Regional and Cultural Complex) Ewingsdale Road  Byron Bay.

Assist A Sista is a Gold Coast based group of community volunteers who work together to help survivors of domestic violence to rebuild and repair by bringing hope and restoring faith.
Through their facebook page, they facilitate donations of clothing, furniture, non-perishable food items, toys and other essential and non-essential comfort items.

Australian Government Pledges $150,000 to Reduce Violence Against Women

The Department of Social Services grant program encourages local community groups, not for profit organisations and local governments to address violence against women in their community. Applicants can apply for funding of up to a total of $150,000 over two financial years. Closes 27th August 2015.

Expression of Interest for headspace Presentations

headspace Tweed Heads is a youth mental health organisation recently opened in March this year, supporting young people in the Tweed Shire, Byron Shire, Southern Gold Coast and surrounds.
They are currently taking Expressions of Interest from local schools, TAFE campuses and universities for headspace Tweed Heads to do a presentation at your institution, free of charge.
