NEW Youth Sexual Health Clinic in Lismore

A free, bulk billed, youth friendly sexual health service for 12-25 year olds will soon open its doors in Lismore. The headspace Sexual Health Clinic, run by The Lismore and Kyogle Family Planning Service, has been designed to make it easy as possible for young people to get the help they need.
The service will begin operating out of the headspace office in 2A Carrington Street Lismore on Thursday 3 August and thereafter every Thursday from 2pm-5pm.

Defiant Lives: The Rise and Fight of the Disability Rights Movement


If you missed its opening at the Sydney Film Festival, don’t despair! A screening of this award-nominated film will be held at Ballina Fair Cinemas, 11.30am on 14 August.
Supported by Social Future’s Far North Cost Ability Links, the screening will be followed by a Q&A session with some of Australia’s key disability rights activists.
Defiant Lives tells the story of the rise and triumph of the disability rights movement, featuring some of the most impressive activists you’ve never heard of.
 

Our Homeless Clean Up at Splendour

It’s not just the festival goers who will benefit from this year’s Splendour in the Grass Festival. Organisers this year encouraged punters not to throw away their unwanted camping gear, but to donate it to Social Futures so it can be distributed to our partner organisations who work with rough sleepers.
Volunteers from Social Futures Connecting Home Program and OTCP scoured Byron Parklands on Monday and managed to fill a truck with items which will be cleaned and donated to people in our region who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

Lismore & Casino
Homelessness Connect Days


After the success of last year’s event in Lismore a number of services will once again be participating in Homelessness Connect Days, in Lismore at the Winsome Hotel on August 8 and at 63 Hickey Street in Casino on August 9. Both events run from 10am until 2pm.

On the day people can connect with homelessness service providers, housing staff, legal specialists, and other service providers.
 

Going Places: Join Our Transport Sharing Scheme!

Does your organisation have mini bus or people mover that could be rented to other community not-for-profit organisations? As part of the Transport Development Project, Social Futures is compiling a database of Northern Rivers organisations that have large vehicles available for not-for-profit organisations to rent on an at-cost or near-cost basis.

Administrator – Local Area Coordination

LAC Administrators will act as the organisation’s first point of contact for participants, families and carers as well as providing administrative, reception and scheduling supports to the Northern NSW Service Area staff. headspace – Aboriginal Youth Access Clinician

The purpose of the Aboriginal Youth Access Clinician (YAC) is to effectively engage, screen, provide timely assessments, arrange referrals to appropriate in-house services and facilitate pathways for young people to access focused health interventions. In arrangement with the Service Manager / Team Leader  the position will also provide brief therapeutic interventions, facilitate group work, coordinate care and follow ups for young people, aged between 12-25 years that contact or are referred to the headspace Centre. Full time position; Lismore based. Applications close: 14 August 2017.

The NSW Health Education Centre Against Violence Course is running a 2-day course for Aboriginal workers and community members on Responding to the Abuse of Aboriginal Older People in November 2017 in Tweed Heads. Closing Date: 4 October 2017.
 

Funded Training Place Available: Mental Health Training

The Mental Health Coordinating Council (MHCC) is the peak body for community Mental Health Services in NSW and a Registered Training Organisation. MHCC has been working with FACS to provide Smart and Skilled funded part qualification training, and have been successful in obtaining funding to provide training in Western Sydney, Dubbo and Lismore.
 

Free Professional Development DV-Alert Training

Lifeline Northern Rivers is offering a free accredited course in Domestic Violence Response Training (DV-alert) for health, allied health and community frontline workers who come in contact with people experiencing or at risk of domestic violence as part of their work. A two-day face-to-face DV-alert workshop for Community Sector Workers will be held at the Ballina Surf Club, Lighthouse Parade, East Ballina, 13-14 September 2017.
