headspace Tweed Heads Youth Advisory Group is recruiting!

Are you (or do you know someone) aged between 12-25, interested in mental health, and passionate about helping young people in the community? The headspace Tweed Heads Youth Advisory Group (YAG) is recruiting!
The YAG meet once a fortnight (Wednesdays 4-6pm) and advise on headspace policies, help plan and run our events, and find creative ways to break the stigma on mental health. Its great way to learn about community services, youth leadership and mental health, and connect with some amazing young people.

“Real Boy” movie screening for
Wear It Purple Day

COMPASS (Tweed/Southern Gold Coast LGBTIQAP+ Youth Network) is excited to present Real Boy, a beautiful new release film documenting three years of a young man’s gender affirmation journey. headspace Tweed Heads will be screening this film for Wear It Purple Day on Friday 25 August at Hoyts Tweed City from 5-8pm, followed by an expert LGBTIQAP+ Awareness Panel 'You Can Ask That'. Entry is by gold coin donation, all welcome. The film is suitable for 12yo and above, although it touches on some mature themes including self harm and drug use.

Child Poverty Crisis Hits Single Parent Families: ACOSS statement

The Melbourne Institute’s HILDA report shows child poverty in single parent families has reached a crisis level, rising from 18% to 23% in the two years since social security for sole parents was cut in 2013.

Alcohol & Other Drugs Youth Treatment Services – NSW Health

NSW Health is seeking tenders for the expansion and enhancement of alcohol and other drug treatment services for young people in NSW. NSW Health will commission the delivery of specific drug and alcohol treatment services for young people aged 10-19 years old.

Disability Employment Services 2018 ROI

The federal government is establishing a new panel of Disability Employment Service providers to help people with disability find and keep jobs. The Department of Social Services is now inviting organisations with demonstrated experience in delivering disability and/or employment services to register their interest in delivering Disability Employment Services from 1 July 2018.

1800RESPECT: Important Update from General Manager

General Manager of 1800RESPECT Nicole McMahon has released a statement regarding 1800RESPECT partnering with not-for-profits across Australia. The competitive tender process for the trauma specialist counselling component of 1800RESPECT has concluded. A new arrangement for delivery of trauma specialist counselling is to be introduced, with a panel of not-for-profit sector organisations to be formed.

Free Tech Safety Sessions

A free 2-hour technology safety training session will be delivered by WESNET’s Safety Net Australia providing an in-depth presentation on how smartphones can be misused to abuse, stalk, or harass another person. This year’s “Happiness Day” will be held at HACC Centre Tweed Heads on Wednesday 27 September, 10am-2pm. The event is run by  members of the Bunyarah-ga women’s group. The Happiness Day was developed 4 years ago when members from the Tweed community identified that there was a lot of sadness within the community.

Sustainable House Day & Design Competition

This year’s Sustainable House Design Competition will be bigger than ever, combining with Tweed ‘Living for the Future’ Expo held on Saturday 16 September, 2017 10am-4pm at the Seagulls Club, Gollan Drive, Tweed Heads West. 2017 Natural Disaster Recovery Fund Grants Program

In 2017, the Natural Disaster Recovery Fund will provide grants UP TO $10,000 to community groups working on recovery projects in Queensland regions impacted by Cyclone Debbie in March and Northern New South Wales communities impacted by flood in April, and invite community or non-profit organisations working in the following Queensland and Northern NSW communities impacted by these weather events to apply for a grant.
