Forum Maps the Way Ahead for Aged Care


The Northern NSW Aged Care Sector Development Forum, being held at Ballina Surf Club on 29 May, aims to help local aged care service providers to plan for the new sector reforms. Presented by Social Futures the Forum offers Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) service providers & Home Care Providers (HCP) an opportunity to hear from and have conversations with sector experts on key challenges, operational issues and consumer support arrangements impacting the new marketplace.
 

Aged Care Roadmap (1 day) – A Day of Presentation,
Discussion and Reflection
 
May 30 @ 9:15 am – 3:00 pm – $50.

This workshop, being held at Kentwell Community Centre, 20 Bangalow Road, Ballina, will give participants a critical understanding of reform across the Aged Care sector, including providing a framework for the next seven years and the opportunity to consider the last four years and where we are right now.

Free filmmaking workshop at headspace Lismore!

 

headspace Lismore is hosting a free workshop for young people 12-25 on Tuesday 6 June from 5-7.30pm, teaching young people how to write, shoot and edit a short film.

National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is next week 27 May – 3 June.
These dates mark two milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey:
The 1967 referendum and the historic Mabo decision, respectively.
This year's theme is ‘Let’s Take the Next Steps’.

Dementia Carer Information Session (1 day) – Maclean

May 30 @ 9.15am – 2.30pm, Maclean.
This FREE information session will provide participants with a better understanding of Dementia and its impact, and offer techniques to improve communication between a person with Dementia and carers, family, friends and neighbours.
 

Frontline Training – Improving Skills in Recognising and Responding to the Abuse of Older People (3 hours)

May 30 @ 9:30am – 12:30pm, Ballina.
During this training session, participants will explore issues around elder abuse and the rights of older people.
 

Building your Evidence Base (1 day) – Measuring and reporting client outcomes; evaluating your services and projects

May 31 @ 9:15am – 3:00pm, Ballina.
This workshop will build participants’ understanding around the essential components and stakeholder benefits of evidence based practice and equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to measure and report on client outcomes and to design and conduct evaluations of their services, programs and projects.
 

The Nurtured Heart Approach (1 day) – Grafton

June 3 @ 9.15am – 3.30pm, Grafton.
This workshop in Grafton will familiarise participants with the Nurtured Heart Approach and how to use this Approach to improve your own situation with a challenging child as well as helping to change the way your child sees themselves.
 

Standard Mental Health First Aid – 4th Edition (2 days)

June 20 @ 9:00am – June 21 @ 3:30pm, Lismore.
The 2-day, 12-hour Mental Health First Aid course teaches adults how to provide initial support to adults who are developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis. The course curriculum is based on the MHFA Guidelines.

Upcoming Course:
Working with Children who Sexually Abuse - 16 June, Grafton
This course will explore the issues around adolescent sexual development and sexual abuse perpetrated by young people.

Calls for NFPs to Help Uninsured Australia

Those who can’t afford insurance are being left without a “vital safety net”, according to a new report which claims the not-for-profit sector could help boost coverage for those on low incomes. The new discussion paper from Brotherhood of St Laurence highlights the hardship of those who can’t afford insurance and explores the ways a not-for-profit insurance platform could provide low-cost coverage, Pro Bono News reports.

The NSW Government recently gave Aboriginal Affairs approval to consult on draft legislation to recognise and protect NSW Aboriginal languages. Regional workshops will begin on 3 May 2017 and end 14 June 17.

What can parents do to prevent teenage substance use? This webinar on Thursday 25 May will provide attendees with an overview of the important role parents can play in preventing adolescent substance use, and introduce a new online parenting program.
