New Chapter for Lismore headspace: Change of Management
and Expansion into Casino and Kyogle

North Coast Primary Health Network (NCPHN) has expanded the reach of youth mental health services and also transitioned the management of Lismore headspace to Social Futures.
The Commonwealth Government has provided funding of $1.378m over 18 months for the ongoing operation of the Lismore headspace centre and to expand youth mental health services in Casino and Kyogle.

Invitation: headspace Lismore Planning Workshop

Interested services and community members are invited to contribute to the planning of the next phase of headspace Lismore at a workshop being held on Thursday 16 March, 9am-12.30pm at Kadina High Campus.

New dietician at headspace

headspace Lismore now has an onsite Dietitian, Nina Kelly, commencing at the service on 14 March 2017.

Northern NSW Aged Care Sector Development Forum:

Social and Affordable Housing Fund: Phase 1 Projects

The NSW Council of Social Service (NCOSS) has welcomed the announcement of the successful projects to be delivered under the first phase of the Social and Affordable Housing Fund (SAHF). Social Futures CEO and NCOSS President Tony Davies said the projects showed the SAHF was an important tool encouraging new strategies to boost social and affordable housing across the state.

Inclusion Sports at Grafton Tennis Club

Grafton City Tennis Club held its inaugural Wheelchair Tennis Open on Saturday 25 February 2017, with Ability Links and the Clarence Valley Council providing funding to support the weekend.

Free ‘Nurtured Hearts’ Training in Brunswick Heads and Grafton

The Belonging Project is offering free training for families who have a child living with disability with workshops on the Nurtured Hearts Approach. The training is on Thursday 18 May at Brunswick Heads and Saturday June 3 in Grafton.

Regional Manager – headspace

Social Futures has a vacancy for a Regional Manager of headspace, to be responsible for the development and implementation of the strategic direction and operations of the headspace Lismore and Tweed Heads services. The position will lead, develop, implement, oversee and manage the operations, and the future growth and development of the headspace centres in the region. Applications close: 5pm, 29 March 2017.

Project Officer – Strategy & Engagement

The Workplace Mentoring Network Project will create a regional network of employers, peer workers, professionals, clinical and other supports to address barriers that limit employment opportunities for people living with mental illness. This position will lead and deliver the Workplace Mentoring Network: Creating Pathways for Recovery through Employment Project. Applications close Friday 17 March 2017.

TEI (Targeted Earlier Intervention) Reform Update: 3-year contract extensions

Youth Action CEO Katie Acheson has announced that the Minister for Community Services Pru Goward will send letters to all services currently operating under Targeted Earlier Intervention (TEI) reforms, outlining that all organisations in the TEI space will receive a 3-year contract extension, with the aim of allowing the early intervention sector time to properly plan and transition to new TEI service models.

NCPHN Substance Misuse Program: Expression of Interest

The North Coast Primary Health Network (NCPHN) is calling for expressions of interest (EOI) to participate in the 12 month Substance Misuse Program (SMP) from organisations on the NSW North Coast who provide case management services in a range of settings (e.g. Housing, Employment, Aboriginal Services, Refuges, Youth Services, Community Services).

UN Free & Equal has launched a new micro-campaign that aims to raise awareness of the scale and impact of anti-LGBTIQ bullying and calls on parents, teachers, schools and governments to play their part in stamping it out.

Civil Law Advice Clinics in Northern NSW

Legal Aid has released a flyer for its new civil law advice clinic at OTCP Connections Centre, Tweed Heads (starting on 14 March 2017), plus a list of all Northern NSW civil law advice clinics being run through the Lismore office, including homelessness drop-in clinics.

Sustainable Tourism: Coming to a farm near you

There is a growing incentive for farmers and landholders to ‘value add’ to their agricultural product to increase on farm returns. Utilising land to its best advantage through sustainable tourism is one way to do this, according to RDA Northern Rivers. Two online services that help farmers understand sustainable tourism and enter the market are YouCamp and Earth Check.

Elsa Dixon Aboriginal Employment Program (EDAEP): Tenders Now Open

The Elsa Dixon Aboriginal Employment Program (EDAEP) assists Aboriginal people to access employment and career development pathways into the public sector. Tenders are now open for funding, with applications closing Sunday 19 March.

NSW Government 2017 NAIDOC Week Grants

The 2017 NAIDOC grants round is now open and applications can be received until the closing date Thursday 27 April. The NSW Government is urging grassroots organisations to hold local events during NAIDOC Week 2017 by providing a total of $200,000 in grants to help celebrate the history, culture and accomplishments of Aboriginal people.

Sage Foundation: New Philanthropic Fund

A new million dollar fund is being opened up to enterprising not for profits worldwide in a bid to help improve the lives of military veterans, young people or women and girls. Grants of between $5,000 and $35,000(USD) will be awarded, with a first round closing date of April 5.

Round 3 of the Social Housing Community Improvement Fund

The NSW Government is launching Round 3 of the Social Housing Community Improvement Fund (SHCIF). Applications will open in March 2017 for six weeks.
The SHCIF aims to create better and stronger social housing communities by improving local amenities through the provision of one-off grants. Community organisations, local councils and private sector organisations are encouraged to apply.

Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation is holding a Community Grants Workshop on Tuesday 28th March at Lismore Workers Club.

Lismore City Council’s Annual Community Grants Scheme 2017/18

Council’s community grants process is called the Annual Community Grants Scheme. It is open to all community organisations who wish to undertake worthwhile community projects or activities in the Lismore Local Government Area. Applications are open from 9am on Monday, 5 April to 4pm on Monday, 5 May 2017.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Courses

Safer Communities is delivering Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses in the Byron Bay Hinterland and beyond. The next 14-hour Youth MHFA Course is on Saturday 25 March and 1 April, 9am to 4pm, and the 4-hour Mental Health First Aid for the Suicidal Person Course is on Saturday March 18, 10am to 2pm.
