Free workshop at headspace Lismore! Make films & win prizes!

headspace Lismore is hosting a free workshop for young people 12-25 tomorrow (Tuesday 6 June) from 5pm-7.30pm, teaching young people how to write, shoot and edit a short film. If you are 12-25 and want the opportunity to learn, create and have fun we hope to see you. You can also enter “REC Ya Shorts Youth Film Festival” and have the chance to win in over $25,000 worth of prizes.

Working with young people who sexually abuse (1 day)

June 16 @ 9:00am - 4:30pm, Grafton.
This training is for all community sector workers, in particular people working with young people at risk of involvement in the criminal justice system, youth and family support workers, alcohol and other drug workers, mental health workers and health practitioners.

Standard Mental Health First Aid – 4th Edition (2 days)

June 20 @ 9:00am – June 21 @ 3:30pm, Lismore.
The 2-day, 12-hour Mental Health First Aid course teaches adults how to provide initial support to adults who are developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis. The course curriculum is based on the MHFA Guidelines.

Child Story Implementation

ChildStory is on track for implementation throughout NSW in 2017. The ChildStory IT system will be introduced to the Department of Family and Community Services (FACS) districts and state-wide services, including the Child Protection Helpline, over a five-week period in October–November 2017.

The HIPPY Goonellabah program (Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters) has now been given permission to work with families from Lismore! This means that any Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander families that live in either Lismore or Goonellabah can enrol in the program.

Calls to Stop ‘Revolving Door’ Between Prisons and Homelessness

Peak homelessness bodies, together with criminal justice advocates, are calling for urgent action to see a “monumental boost” to social housing after new data found 4,000 people went from prison to living it rough last year, Pro Bono News reports.
